typical insecure male, care about the person next to you and base what you put in off how they look. You guys need to lighten up and stop being such pussies. I guess I cant understand because I've never dieted for a show...
if you see a guy who looks like they didn't diet at an ifbb show what happens? some people might say they look like ****, whyd they get on stage, etc. But they end up not placing or being placed dead last and people move on. Who cares if the guy next to you doesn't look like he trained for the show. I always understood most humble competitors compete only against themselves. His lack of work doesn't effect you, and especially wont effect your placing. I guess I just dont understand why everyone's so whiny about this.

Here's my contribution. My second contest doesn't seem that long ago, but it was the 2009 NPC Lenda Murray Championships. It was a great experience because I got the chance to meet and greet both Lenda, and the guest poser, Ronnie Coleman. I have to say the majority of the competitors were in good shape, but there was one guy that really stood out for all the wrong reasons.
I don't know his story, and I'm not trying to ridicule him, but this is clearly an example of how not to show up to a contest. When I ordered the DVD of the show, I later noticed that they excluded his entire posing routine. So basically, the only time he appeared was during the awards ceremony. He competed in the super heavyweight class against Shiloe Steinmetz, who's a seasoned veteran, and former Team Universe heavyweight champ. As you can see, both competitors were good sports.

I started at 16... I came from being very overweight at boarding school, (115kg) I trained twice a day, Rowing on urg machines in the morning and doing squats/bench/miltary press/basic arm exercises in the school gym after- with my protein powder from the local supermarket.
I finished high school at 18 and got down to 82- I started uni where I 'dreamer bulked' back up to 105kg due to pressure of study/work and flatting.
I watched 'One Step Closer' by Jay Cutler and made a goal with my mate that we wnated to be on a Men's Health mag cover.
Obviously the ambition has gone up since then...
I struggled a lot with my nutrition education, typical 'don't eat fats' sort of mindset- I finally sorted out my dieting when I turned 21 and set the challenge for myself to compete before 22- that last show I did in April, I qualified for nationals in the pre juding, that photo is from the night show.
I did all my own coaching/posing/nutrition with near no help apart from mixed advice from PTs and from magazines/forums.
I still look after myself, but am heading towards nationals in little more than 2 weeks with a lot more knowledge that I have gained researching properly and experimenting during the offseason.
Currently at 83kg, whereas in the last competition I was 86.
Feeling very confident.
Sorry for the TL;DR.
@Tryingtogethuge- I'm hurt so much about the opinion from someone I don't know, or doesn't know me- honestly.
P.S if you actually opened your eyes, I took back everything I said straight away... some people have bad days- you obviously have a lot of them.Last edited by Zachary533; 09-26-2012 at 09:52 PM.

Yeah, Shiloe looked great! He was my height, and I was amazed at the amount of muscle he carried. The real battle was for the overall. Somehow, I won that.
Almost a year later I ran into him at the Team Universe and took this photo with him backstage. Pictures don't do him justice, we're talking 240 lbs to my 196 lbs at weigh ins. Just goes to show there's always someone bigger. If he keeps at it, he'll win his pro card through the masters sooner or later.

Any misc lingo is crap.
On subject, I've competed in sanctioned contests twice, pic is from 2005. Didn't place but got in my best ever shape. Did it again in 2009 and a combo of over-dieting, under training and generally faffing up led to me looking like a damn anorexic. Never again lol. Still least I looked like I vaguely trained and had dieted that year....coming down from 15 stone to just under 12 was slightly daft but hey ho.
Gunna give it another go next year...
Point is, if I've busted my ass to get into shape (even if it's not enough to place) and I come up against some fat soft piece of crap as shown in the previous pics I'd be pretty hacked off someone felt they could just turn up and compete with no prep whatsover.''There’s this battle over waterboarding at places like Guantanamo Bay. I think that they should just say, “Hey, if you guys don’t talk, you have to see Hercules In New York.” I guarantee those guys would talk much faster. You don’t need to do waterboarding or anything else. That’s the ultimate threat.''
