In the past I'd do laterals rarely or never, but in the last few months I decided to try doing them often, every 2nd day. I use low weight and high reps and do them very slowly.
I now have pain in my right elbow. I think it started shortly after starting side laterals. The pain is not present when relaxed, I only feel it when I push against my arm as if doing an arm wrestling motion. Does anyone else have this type of pain and do you think this is anything to worry about? Should I keep doing side laterals or stop them, or maybe do them less frequently?

I would try them either with a neutral grip, or using a bent arm(arm bent at a 90 degree angle). Bent arm is a handy way of extending the set from regular straight arm lateral raises, only they become a tad easier because you're shortening the lever. Also applicable to rear delt flyes, and this technique(whether done standing or bent over) may take some of the stress off the elbow joint as well. It has for me, at least.

I don't see the point of doing side laterals very slowly, and don't see why you went from never to every 2nd day either. The context of how they fit into your overall program also matters.
In general, if something you're doing is causing you pain - don't keep doing it the exact same way. Side laterals generally aren't that problematic on their own.

Elbow pain from laterals is pretty common but usually not a long lasting issue if you stop training them. I would buy the wrist/ankle things with the cable support clip and use that. If you aren't gripping, people tend to stop experiencing that awkward pain. At the same time, spend more time doing myofascial release with a lacrosse ball on the forearms, biceps, and triceps. Additionally, wrist flexibility and strength should be worked on in all planes.
