"Overspeed Training
Q: What do you think of overspeed training?
A: Downhill running alters hip position and towing is useless and dangerous. Everyone can move their legs fast enough through the air, it's only ground contact that slows you down. In simplest terms, the shorter the ground contact the faster the runner. Towing causes the foot to land too far ahead of the center of gravity causing the sprinter to spend more time on the ground. The only overspeed training we ever used was running with the wind."

right now i run any where from a 5.5 - 5.8 40
yeah im slow but i just started to get into shape and my work ethnic has become one of my best attributes my coaches even say i have one of the best work ethnics they have ever seen so dedication is not a factor.

I second the Walter Payton hill runs. He inspired me as a kid to incorporate hill runs into my training and I still do them now 20 years later. No benefits to downhill running. You don't want a longer stride you want a higher leg turnover. If you want to lengthen your stride lengthen it when your feet are behind you and not in front of you. Look up Chi Running and you will see what I mean.
I would try to incoporate some plyometrics into your training.
If your knees start to hurt back off on the hills. Unless you have a good base built up you can cause yourself some unnecessary pain.
