i've always felt it was Lou Ferrigno, nothing to do with his personality, just strictly on physique.
he never impressed me at all, no shape, look, lines, ugly chest, nothing to that dude, just height and hype.
if anyone ever needed roids to pump himself up halfway decent it was him.

Yeah, he was a hell of a lot better than zane. At least he had the mass to justify a pro card and wasn't a squirt.

They"re All Over-rated
IFBB Pros -- and the top NPC guys for that matter, are ALL in a way over-rated.
Wait wait - hear me out.
Bodybuilding is a small pond. They are the big fish.
But just because the fish is big, that don't make the pond no bigger.
Bodybuilders are, at best, B-tier clebrities in the big picture. More often D-tier. Within our small little world they are hyped up and seem bigger than life. But that's only "from the inside" of bodybuilding.
You know, the world of sports, the academia, popular culture. The ARCHETYPAL bodybulder is well known, and so is the STEREOTYPICAL one. Yet the specific IFBB/bodybuilding celebrities? Well, those guys are, in the grand scheme of things, not too well known.
How many people's mom's know these guys? Look around at folks on the streets ? do you think most of these folks even recognize their names? An IFBB guy ? even Jay Cutler - walks into a restaurant, and two or three folks migh know "who" he is. But the majority will probably just think he is some big-ass freakshow bodybuilder. And that may be imporessive, but doesn't make him ? or any dude like him ? necessarily distinguishable from any other huge dude.
So, in a way, all these guys are "over-rated." They are never referred to by name in the bigger world. They take no direct responsibility for any pop culture influence. And they are supported only by their fans.
Their fans from the little pond.
So, I know you guys are gonna go all ape on me, now. Here I am jumping in the little pond and saying "hey, it's small in here."
But guys - they're ALL over-rated. SO FEW of these names (like maybe less than ten over 100 years) have ever crossed over into popular conscious ? either in professional, academic or social aspects.
So all this "that guy is the best" stuff . . . yeah . . .
they're over-rated . . .

Word from the "little pond"
All good.
Although, I dunno if I agree that my opinion was RIDICULOUS to mention. Seemed relevant to the thread to me. But hey, no worries.
I guess I just love this sport and it's athletes, and so I DEEPLY and PROFOUNDLY am convinced there are a lot of current bodybuilding athletes who COULD do MORE. There are athletes right now who could be relevant in the broader societal context, AS WELL AS in the context of bodybuilding media.
So, I am just saying that it might be a little wiser to uphold those types of athletes, instead of just hyping them based on "Ooh! Ooh! I like him! He's cool!"
We can shoose to uphold anyone we want. So we can choose the guys who keep bodybuilding asleep. Or we can choose the guys who might emerge as heroes in the bigger context – both within AND WITHOUT bodybuilding.
Follow me?
And right now, this ain't really ANY of the top names from the media.
The guys we uphold should be the bodybuilders who have THAT heroic ability. The ability to LEAD bodybuilding towards bigger and better, instead of just sticking to the B-tier. Anything else is over-rated.
So THAT'S why I think fans tend to OVER-RATE a lot of these guys. Come on – ghey have more ability than their SHOWING! In other words, I think these athletes who have bigger leadership are already among us. It's just that their not getting the support necessary to make the BIGGER impact.
So, you see, it's not ridiculous. I'm actually giving backhanded CREDIT, here.
And that's why a lot (most? all?) of the current top dudes WITHIN the sport seem over-rated to me . . . they are heralded only within a small context. The real dudes worth hyping are gonna be the ones who step up and bring something BIGGER to the sport.
Bigger than just their own mass, I mean.
Wasn't a petty cut. It was a different spin on what might be a better cutting line for determining "over rated" versus "under rated."
Follow?
But I'll try not to use my brain next time.Last edited by The_Real_XN; 05-08-2007 at 07:13 AM.

Umm . . . yeah . . . that was the point.
All these guys are being called the best this or the best that, but can't even comparably ascend beyond those (like Arnold) who came before them.
Not saying they all have to become movie stars and popularity politiciians, but the point stands that they are stuck in the little pond, which makes their top-rated status sort of OVER-rated.
