Ice looks about melted on my favorite lake here. Gonna try to hit it later this week or next, see if there is any early action.

My son caught a 2lb big mouth bass first cast in and line not even in the water for a minute on a real worm. His hook was tiny and reeled it in on land. he got the fish dirty so I thought Id dunk the fish in the water (by the line and not hand) and by the 3rd dunk it slipped off the line. He got mad and about cried but then I talked him through it and he was fine. Here is another catch he made(but not so big)

Got the old motor pulled off today. Got the replacement hung too. Very productive.
Almost ready to get out on the sparkle barge again!

I haven't been living in Florida for long, but I've heard stories about a big freeze a few years ago that decimated the snook population in south Florida a few years ago... I'm sure it's widely known for you veteran FL fishermen... Sucks to hear, but I'm still gunning for them.

Just created an account at http://www.crappie.com/ to ask this question but I'll ask it here also.
Someone mind posting a checklist of what to buy to get started out? Went crappie fishing with the wife and father-in-law over the weekend but want to get my own stuff instead of using his. He gave me a tacklebox full of stuff but haven't looked to see what's in it yet.
Will be fishing in Illinois (Carlyle, Kincaid, Rend Lake) and anywhere in Missouri fish come out of lol (since that's where I live).
Don't know anything about this anymore and haven't fished since my grandfather passed 10 years ago.

1. Go to a Local Bait Shop if you can (bass pro if you have to)
2. Buy a Inexpensive Spinning Rod/Reel Combo.
3. Have them help you put 8lb test on the reel
4. ask the people at the place where you buy the rod and reel at what would be good to fish with in your area for certain species.
that would be the easiest way IMO.

Taste great. Mild flavor, firm white meat. Crappie and perch are great.
