Canadian sniper has shattered world record

A Canadian soldier in Iraq has killed an ISIS militant from more than two miles away, shattering the world record for a confirmed sniper kill in military history.

The 3,450-meter shot, which took about 10 seconds to reach its target, was independently verified by a video camera and other data, the source said.

The prior record was held by a British sniper, Craig Harrison, who in 2009 shot a Taliban gunner from 2,475 meters, or about a mile and a half, away during an operation in Afghanistan.

That's insane. At that distance the bullet would have literally fallen into the recipient. He would have practically had the trajectory of ballistic missile even with .338 or .50. The amount of physics they have to account for is mind boggling.

Platimuss, had to have been a 50 caliber, you think? Even though 338 is powerful, does it have enough on it to kill at 2 miles? It might, I don't know.

No idea I didn't see it mentioned, but likely a .50. That would be weird to see from the spotters perspective, the barrel pointed up at an angle like it would have needed to compensate for drop, then it connect 10 seconds later.

Just confirmed that Thomas was correct above. It was a McMillan TAC-50, a .50-caliber.

"While the ammunition that Canadian special forces use in the TAC-50 is “off-the-charts powerful,” with some 13,000 foot-pounds of force when it comes out of the muzzle, the speed of a bullet, a 750-grain Hornady round, is not as important as the aerodynamic efficiency of the bullet."

Pretty sure that's how it went down, Thomas. We can ask Chazzy. I bet he knows those guys since the population of Canada is about 33.

No idea, I'm not sure on the ballistics for that round but a 750 grain projectile is almost ordinance. I shoot 168-180 grain bullets in .308. I've shot close to 1000 yards a few times but usually 300-500 is "long enough range" for me. They have a little pocket computer thing where they plug in the velocity, ballistic coefficient, distance, temp, wind speed, barometric pressure, and all of those other things that make a difference at that range. when curvature of the earth starts to matter I'm out . Even shooting small caliber rifles 300-400 yards is challenging with anything more than a slight breeze.

13000 ft lbs doesn't sound like it would be very enjoyable to shoot either. Getting kicked in the shoulder by a mule would probably be about the same as the recoil.

With our government ensuring that most guns are outlawed and that most of those guns are owned by outlaws,it astounds me that a weapon such as that is available for purchase in your country.

    Very,very jealous as well.

Yea but owning one doesn't mean someone could actually shoot it to its effective range. $10,000 for the gun and probably $4-$5 every time you pull the trigger. I don't even know anywhere you could shoot that far without crossing roads etc in the Midwest. Maybe somewhere in the desert.
