cool! I didn't mean to be pushy...but I guess I was bein' pushy...haha.
thanks...and I agree with the activity. Teenagers(kids) should be very active...best advice right there. One nice side effect of living an active youth is you get to eat what ever the hell you want. I know I did and it was awesome.

Hey everyone, best of luck reaching your goals.
Starting weight is 160. Cut Jan 1 to April 1, dropped a little more than 15 lbs in that time, then maintained for April. Going to lean out a bit more, probably for the duration of May, then transitioning to recomp when I feel like I'm as lean as I want (or start looking like I need to put on muscle significantly more than I need to lose fat).
Just took a few self shots for some starting point pics, may upload them later. On my Jan-April cut I didn't take any progress photos, and sometimes it's easy to doubt your progress on a day to day basis if you don't have that reference. I definitely encourage everyone to take progress pics (even if you don't share them) for the psychological benefit of proving your progress to yourself and staying positive
Again, best of luck! Feeling pretty good about this after my last cut which pretty much went exactly as I had hoped. If anyone needs a little personal motivation or help, feel free to PM. I'm no expert and of course the stickies have all of the info you really need, but I have had consistent results and tend to be pretty good at navigating the mind games that can sometimes happen on this type of journey.

Yeah, I've got a half-marathon in a little over a month. Come on over to the running thread and let us know how your training goes!

I didn't count calories, but I trained hard and consumed fewer calories than I burned. The trick is, it's not easy to know for sure you are in a deficit without counting cals
Gonna have to put out a little disclaimer because I feel like this might be borderline flame-bait. If you are consuming less calories than you are burning, you will lose weight, period. I think a person should do this in whatever way is easiest and most fun for them. I would advise anyone who isn't having results to count every calorie, weigh your stuff, etc. (I've had good luck in the past with the myfitnesspal app when I was tracking every cal). I certainly don't want to dissuade anyone from following the standard advice in the stickies of this forum. I have done it that way long enough to be able to do things in a way that is a little easier for me and still get consistent results. I am not a pro BBer, nor was I obese or really desperate to lose a lot of weight fast, just someone who wanted to improve his fitness level and lean out a bit for summer, while still enjoying a few drinks at the end of the day and doing things in a way that was convenient for my lifestyle .
My method on that leg of things basically worked like this:
1. Training hard ~5 days per week (lifting and cardio).
2. Calibrating backwards with food intake. Basically eating enough to feel decent psychologically, keep my lifts going up every week, and generally feel good in the gym, but not more than that. I started after being injured and unable to lift for about 6 months, so being in an essentially untrained state going into the cut (or recomp, whatever you want to call what I was doing) allowed me to increase strength/muscle during this time period (noob gains).
3. I did IF. My basic day would consist of black coffee and water all day, workout at around 5 pm, big meal post workout then usually a snack before bed. I also drank alcohol almost every day on that cut (usually light beer and tequila).
4. Calories mostly from high quality protein sources (buffalo, fish/sashimi, grass fed beef, eggs from free range worm-eatin' chickens) and then the alcoholic beverages of course. Lots of veggies, primarily greens, broccoli, spinach, kale, etc. which don't contain many calories, are very micro-nutrient dense, and have fiber.
I know there might be some IIFYM guys out there who are about ready to tell me that I could have lost more weight counting my cals and eating McDonalds every day. I think that's great, and at the same time, I knew that I was getting enough protein and good fats, and that I was burning more cals than I was consuming. I had a good time in the gym, I had a good time at the bar. Not a single calorie was counted that cut, and I was happy with my results. If anyone is curious as to why I did things that way (might seem weird if that's pretty far off from your current lifestyle), I'm happy to answer them, but at the same time I'm not trying to encourage anyone to do things my way.
Again, best of luck to all!
