i'm a very political person. travelled all over the country doing competitive policy debate and won national tournaments(****gy but we're into what we're into). worked for a congress man. on a lot of political forums also worked two interships in ib.
i'm so apathetic about our country's voting system and just current political system in general. the political punditry is just a show to hide the fact that republicans and democrats are the same.
special interest groups, the wealthiest individuals, and corporations have a huge incentive to maintain the status quo. they have money and connections that you and i can't even imagine being used to do so. anyone who wants truly wants change doesn't have these, otherwise they wouldn't want anything to change.
the idea that these people would let millions of absolutely semi-retarded americans pick the new leader of the free world and the future of their wealth and power is absurd. i laughed at everyone who said the elections of obama would cause any real change. and it hasn't. his foreign relations suck, and they don't mean much anyways. america has always dominated through hard power, not soft power. he hasn't created any real change period. there is no arguement other wise that isn't terrible.
the economy is going to get hit HARD by inflation. people's standards of living are going to decrease even more. people will begin to look for ways to express their politics and socioeconomic voices outside of the established system. this usually means violence.
social unrest + bad economy = time to send all the unemployed and intelligent young people that could cause problems to fight overseas. the majority of voters are too old to be drafted. they will vote in and support anyone who promises to pay their medicare, even if it means kids going to fight and die for them. the only way i see this not happening is a serious overhaul of the american political system, but that's not going to happen.
i'm either going to vote libertarian for the idealogical significance of exercising what political influence i have or refuse to participate in a masquarade of democracy.
