I wondered if that was you! Your lifts were so smooth and controlled (despite your own criticism) that you stuck out like a sore thumb at the Y. I figured you'd say hi if you wanted to though, since there's really no mistaking me. I was busy having rage fits over dropping my snatches anyway

Haha yeah your rage was funny but the other dudes were keeping you calm-ish.
I'll say hi next time, but I was in a world of hurt last night with my groin and sickness so I didn't have much left in the tank for being social.
Also glad to know the lifts looked in control because I was trying to shut my brain off and just lift. Too many thoughts of cues going on for a bit. And they felt off at times, but that is just rust.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

Considering I watch video obsessively I would hope so!
I didn't watch a ton of your lifts, but next time I will hangout to watch some more, but I did catch a couple misses briefly and I think you can easily lift the weight everytime, but I do think your sequencing is slightly off and I think that is because too much weight is forward and you need to be a hair back on your heels.
That was my initial problem on my setup and pulls until I had glenn pendlay look at some video on his forum.
I suggest you post a couple on there.
If you can get your weight back and your shoulders behind the bar come the 2nd pull you will hit big weights in no time.
Prior to getting sick my lifts were moving up steadily after similar tips strictly from some technique honing.
That other dude there had a pretty impressive clean going on. A little too much donkey kick, but can't argue with the results.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

Snatchin'
Today became snatch day. I found a little groove at the end so just went with it.
Technique work with bar
75 2x2
95x2,2,2
105x1,0,1,0
95x1,0
95x2,2,2,2
105x1,1,0,1
Pretty decent overall little sloppy in spots.
Dips BW 206ish 3x5
I will add weight next time, these felt easy. Maybe 20 seconds rest on the sets.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

I have talked to other guy a few times. I am the reason he bought the PP II's haha. I forget his name though.
And I will definitely train with you all here and there. My schedule is just a bit funky at times so I can't guarantee adherence except around weekends haha.

Yessssss we will bring you to the dark side. That's R, he is such a social butterfly. He is the reason we all know each other - otherwise we would just be lifting side by side in silence, lol. Good thing that's not an option right now or I would be so tempted, too. The C&J/snatch seminar at UBC is on the 28th now and I cannot wait to get my hands on the technique plates at the Birdcoop.

i know you do oly lifts and machines are like really gay and stuff but the seated dip machine is GREAT for building it up if you can't do bodyweight dips. high high reps on it.
fuuuuhhhh talk lil crap and you say you gonna dip with a plate .. i got some work to do I dont think I can dip w/ a 45 .... yetRecovering fatass

The sad part is, they work. Most powerlifters don't like leg curls, but goddamn... bodybuilders have hamstrings that hang to the floor mostly built on things like leg curls not GHR's and fancy movements.. everything is a tool and works, it's how you use/implement it!
i think in all the lifting sports its a negative to be too dogmatic. powerlifters who refuse to do high reps, bodybuilders who won't go heavy, oly lifters who don't leave the platform are all missing out on useful tools in my opinion but I'm a big fan of oldschool lifters like coan, kaz etc. ed coan possibly the greatest PLer ever, NEVER hit a max attempt in the gym, and was jacked like a bodybuilder spent weeks and weeks doing 10's and 8's.
i would say you could benefit big time from some high rep machine/hypertrophy work. attack weaknesses after your main lifts etc. Bringing up rear delts for instance could benefit a lot of things but you'll never have balanced delts from pure barbell work.Last edited by samsont; 01-21-2013 at 03:42 PM.

Totally hijacking Rory's thread here. That's actually a fair point. I've been guilty of being elitist.
I do have a bit of rehab/prehab and extra work at 6-12 reps in my program but I'm somewhat spastic about doing it. I agree though that especially when you're still developing technique, that kind of this is useful to address strength issues. There's only so much you can recover from though so choosing what to add can be tricky.training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=153696161&page=51

Defranco shoulder shocker or wendler's SUPER superset are awesome.
and i also like Wendler's assitance advice now and then for older guys(which I am falling into now at 31) of do high rep machine work and it will build muscle and strength but not kill you. Especially if you are pushing all the big lifts.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

well if you do it correctly and just flood the muscle (pump) light weight high high reps, it can actually be beneficial to recovery in my experience. Filmbuff told me to throw in bunch of band pull aparts, this is great example of that. low impact/stress great for hypertrophy and recovery.. got me thinking how I used to do those A lot. Band face pulls/pull aparts/pushdowns for 100s of reps. great stuff.
no hijack or not he;s good example, hes spent lots of time building foundation and like you said his movements look controlled and smooth.. sure a lot is technique but a lot of it is those heavy 5's on squats he's doneRecovering fatass

I attribute most of my strength/technique in general to 2 basic concepts heavy reps on squats, press, deadlift(which I will be doing again on wednesday along with intensity squats) and also high rep assistance.
Whether it's been 5/3/1, sheiko, my own programs, GST, etc. I always do my assistance work high rep to get it done quickly, but I always feel way better. I feel athletic and strong, and it makes explosive lifts and other things in general feel way easier.
Edit:
I cannot remember the last time I attempted a true 1RM. So that says something right there.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

yes! i was trying to explain that to my buddy i train with sometimes. He's trying to get his bench strength up and all he wants to do is go in and see what he can hit and then does no quality reps after it. I've attempted like 3 true 1 rep max attempts in the past 4-5 months and PR'd each time. And to be honest I knew I was gonna hit those PR's each time because of how my reps got stronger/explosive.
