Two things in life right now that I'm aiming for: Getting big and very lean, and the other is making lots of money so I can shove it in peoples faces that didn't give me the time.

I'm from San Francisco, and I can tell you without a doubt that when people mention "California" they are not refering to anything above the grapevine/ valley. Monterey/San Francisco/San Jose are all vacation spots for Socallers, but nothing more. Socal and norcal are two very different places. Socal is a coastal climate, norcal is a continental climate.

Hey bro. I don't want to be a downer, but civil engineering isn't exactly popping down here. A few years ago I was doing office work at one of San Diego's biggest civil engineering companies (Rick Engineering). The main office is in San Diego and they laid off around 100 people. Somewhere around half of their employees. My boss and coworkers said other companies weren't fairing so well, either.
Like I said, that was a few years ago, but it's something to consider.yucky yucky yucky yucky yucky all day

Have a cousin there. He loves it, going to school to be a pharmacist.
Lived in Alberta for 15yrs, didn't have many complaints. Would I go back given the option of SD? Probably not.
Thank you, looking to tan my pale skin and lose the brit look. Not brit look as in teeth.
Our actual income tax isn't 55% but there was a local study done that accounted for income tax, carbon tax (part of our $0.44/L gas tax), sales tax (12%) and other hidden taxes. In Vancouver the AVERAGE person pays 55% tax according to this study.

sorry guys... but you have no clue about taxes.
The corporate rate for Canadian Controlled Private Corporations (most Canadian corps) in BC is 13.5% for the next few years. The rate for other corps / public companies is 28.5% (2010), 26.5% (2011), 25% (2012)... gradually decreasing over the next while.
Personal rates are progressive from 20% if you're making under $40k, to 43% on income over $100k+. No clue where you're getting 55%.

Lol, sadly, that's not true. Yeah, the coastal cities are great, but go inland a bit and it's a completely different state. In socal we have this "small" desert called the Mojave, or try Bakersfield or Riverside. But really, you don't even have to go very far inland from San Diego and you'd think you were nowhere near cali. In my opinion, if you don't live near the coast in cali, you might as well live in Oklahoma.

Read my post above, you might want to read everything before you act smart.
So SD Brahs,
What can you recommend I visit in San Diego that is not the usual tourist trap (Sea World, Nature Park, Balboa etc.)? I want to check out La Jolla, Coronado, the USS Midway and probably shoot some guns. Are there any good gyms downtown SD?
Even the flights are far cheaper flying out of Washington state. I can get tickets for as low as $240 round trip! In Vancouver it's $400 then $200 taxes! We must be losing billions to Washington and Oregon every year. Canada......I am disappoint. Where's the competitive edge?
