What about the possibility that this was a war that's been smouldering with unfairness (both sides) for many years but purposefully reinvigorated? Iran's increased support and funding now they are emboldened by being raised to full partner status with Russia. You could hardly call Russian action a holy war. Putin is not religious, he will pose with senior Orthodox church members if a photo opportunity requires it, but little more. The motivation behind the recent events is not religious, other than a cover story or recruitment drive. Putin knows if the US had to choose between supporting Israel and Ukraine that when the pressure is really on, US attention will turn to Israel and remaining Ukraine support will become very thinly spread.

Russia/Putin is opportunistic. He's simply exploiting the religious divide in the Middle East, pretty much like he did in America by exploiting Trump.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is not America's monkey, not America's circus. Let the Middle East solve their own issues. The only thing the muslims (sunnis/shiites) can agree on is that they hate everyone else. Christians don't even like each other, baptists don't think catholics are a real religion. The only thing they can agree on is a common enemy, rationalism. religion has done a good job keeping people to obey simple rules. So they can live together. For millennia. Is it make believe or not, many of us need an omnipresent axe that will fall if you fcuk neighbor's wife or eat too much.

Simple example : two great nations, Germans and Russkies both abandoned Christianity and instantly went into a full blown bloodbath, not previously known to mankind. Not to mention concentration camps and executions to civilians.

Religion has done a horrible job of getting people to obey laws, especially in America. In any country actually, studies show that the safest cities in the world are secular.
Religion has also done a horrible job of making up penalties for "infractions" that can hardly even be deemed criminal.
You mentioned two dictatorships. America has had biblically endorsed slavery, suppression of women's rights, suppression of LGBQ rights, we even had our own internment camps. We've also had blood baths in this country.

Let's do away with the holy. The world has been shown to be a safer place without it.

There are a lot of countries where some kind of official clause...or nod, is given to a specific belief/religion, this wont be undone most likely, maybe it does not even need to. Fortunately most of them know the difference between right and wrong (mostly) and express common sense and restraint...(most of the time). Some of the others, and their minions well I dont know.

France bans all pro-Palestinian demonstrations

France's interior minister has banned all pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the country.

In a statement, Gérald Darmanin ordered foreign nationals who break the rules to be "systematically" deported.

The move comes as European governments fear a rise in antisemitism triggered by the Israel-Hamas war.

Later a large crowd of pro-Palestinian demonstrators defied the ban in Paris. Police put the total at 3,000, and said they made 10 arrests.
