I've been muscle blasting now since Thanksgiving and feeling like it's time for a cruise (deload) for a few days. I'm not sleeping quite as well and I've been a little melancholy and fatigued this past week. I skipped today and will reassess on Tuesday. I hate taking off but it must be done.
I took a few snaps today for the hell of it...
^^shirtless would have been better but I had on an ugly bra and I was too lazy to find a nice one

Flat BP on Smith machine
90 x 8
95 x 7
100 x 5
I've just started bench pressing- not nearly as strong as you, I'm doing 5x5 with 65-70#. Curious to know where your bench was say last year? I feel like this is going to be one of the hardest lift for me to make progress on. Also, why the smith machine instead of a barbell? Is it a spotter issue or does it target the muscles differently? I've never used a smith machine, but I don't try to bench heavy unless my bf is at the gym too...Last edited by cmg1976; 01-13-2013 at 07:36 AM. Reason: dyslexic typing

thanks for not negging!
Guilty as charged.
Well thanks for the clarification tater... imagine me with thicker delts and 6-pack abs will ya?
Well last year I wasn't doing much flat bench... lots of inclined DB bench and seated bench though. I use the smith because I train solo and it's a safer option (for my spastic self) than barbell bench... so yeah... no spot. As for the inclined DB bench... during last year's bulk I was getting 10-12 reps with the 40's and 4-5 with the 45's. Now I'm doing 12+ with the 45's and 5-8 with the 50's. <-- that progress was made over this years bulk (that started in July). Does that help?
Hahaha!! So not true but thanks girl

Yes, thanks! Never occurred to me to try a smith machine, so I may do that if I feel like benching during the week when I'm in there alone. And it sounds like a 10+% gain a yr is what you noted; so maybe I'll catch up to you in 5 yrs, lol

Guise... why don't you just bench in a power rack and set the safety bars?! Damn I can't even keep track how many times this "issue" has popped up in the female forums, why are people not benching in the rack? I can tell you with 100% certainty that pesky Smith is terrible for your shoulders and while you may build a little chest strength your stabilizers won't get worked and you are setting yourself up for an injury srs. BRB calling 8oclock news so they can make a PSA about benching in the power rack - JUSSSST BENNNNNNNCH!!!
You guys drive me nuts.Current PRs:

Well, here's the issue in my gym... there is nary a single bench within close enough range for me to move to the power racks. I would have to go like 3 rooms down (HUGE gym) and confiscate one from the room with dumb bells (pissing people off along the way) to get one in there. Physically doing that would be hard... but it would also be taking away a key piece of equipment that belongs in that area. There are several "benching stations" right across from the power racks but none of them are equipped with any kind of safety devices. NO ONE benches in the power racks. If they want to bench... they use a benching station. Most of the guys just pull whoever is close by to spot them. I've done that before... but being almost tea-bagged by a veritable stranger has made this a less-appealing option for me. LMAO. So... I stick to plate-load and smith exercises.

^^^Ohhhhkay, well that makes sense. I will stop my whining now. Lol at being teabagged on the bp, not the best conditions to lift under.

Hahaha!!! The only one I trust to spot me on the BP is this guy: http://reds.typepad.com/reds-news/20...pionships.html
^^He's a powerlifting legend and the nicest guy ever... even plays Santa for the kids at the gym. I've gotten several BP "lessons" from him. Brb wears a singlet so no tea-bagging... LOL
