If weightlifting also had about 300 different ways to train/lift we'd get the same questions. Theres more humility in weightlifting.

LOL this is true. The movements might be trickier but OLing is an easier sport to program for sure.

Another aspect is that in weightlifting linearly improving your lifts may not be the best indicator of progress. You're constantly looking for technique/speed/etc whereas in powerlifting you can deduce some crazy conclusions via correlation=causation when your lifts increase. A guy I know swears that preacher curls are a way to improve your bench.

One of the things I love about weightlifting is that it is very niche. Most of the people that do it are very into it - not too many casual oly lifters around my parts at least.

I finally set a strict press PR with 140x15. OK that's a really weird PR but it IS a PR according to Wendler's formula (5/3/1 is how I program the press) and I've been sucking balls at the press for months so I did the most drastic deload possible and I guess it worked. So whatever, I'm counting it.

No, I'm actually the love child of Taranenko and Bill March.

Yes, 140 lb. If I could strict press 308 lb for 15 reps at 185 lb BW, I would be on the streets fighting crime.

In theory, yes, but I've never actually done it. The closest I got was 195 lb, that was a long time ago, but I will break it soon. 83 and 60x10 means you are stronger in the lower rep range (which is preferable IMO). I'm stronger in the higher rep range across all main non Oly-lifts, which is not very useful in this sport but whatever.

Also, I'm curious to see how my programming compares to everyone else's since I try to strke a compromise between practicing the main lifts enough and getting destroyed. So here's what I'm currently doing (although it got shifted a bit this week).

    Mon: C+J/Snatch
    Tue: Snatch/Klokov complex
    Wed: Bench/C+J/FS
    Thur: Break
    Fri: C+J/Snatch
    Sat: Press/FS (heavy)
    Sun: Break

The press, bench and FS heavy day are programmed with 5/3/1, the FS on Wednesday I'll just work up to a bit beyond whatever I cleaned, and the Oly lifts I just work up to a daily max.

Also mobility work 7 days a week:
-Take bar with 35 lb bumper per side. Hold across knees in ankle stretch in deep squat position for 2 minutes. Hold in the rack position with all five fingers on the bar for one minute, hold in the deep front squat for two sets of one minute, hold in deep close grip OHS for two sets of one minute.

Does the word "oly" sound incredibly stupid to anyone else? The name of the sport is weightlifting. Yes, it does exist outside the Olympics. No, thrusters do not count as jerks.

Yes, but people are stupid. I just started weightlifting, and when I talk to people about it, they say stuff like, "Haven't you been lifting weights for a while though?"

So I say, "Olympic weightlifting." To which they seem to always reply, "You're going to the Olympics!?" Yes. Yes I am.

I know it's kind of douchey/elitist, but I refuse to call it "Olympic" Weightlifitng. I just refer to it as Weightlifting, and whenever someone says they do weightlifting (referring to to lifting weights) I correct them. I also tell all of my clients they can't call themselves Weightlifters just because they snatch and clean&jerk. They have to compete first.

Been watching some Old timey lifting vids. It's crazy how different the sport was back in the day. The fact that you weren't allowed to thigh brush made the lifts look really awkward and non-technical. Paul Anderson would have been beaten by Naim. Right about the early 50s was when the split was being phased out by the squat snatch and squat clean, but you would still see it done.

The dude at 2:41 is absolutely crazy. He's not allowed thigh brush so he has to awkwardly move the weight up with a really **** bar path with really bent arms and he can't really use his hips efficiently because he can't keep the bar close, and he still manages to yank himself under the bar and catch it in a crazy position.

I also tell all of my clients they can't call themselves Weightlifters just because they snatch and clean&jerk. They have to compete first.
I sorta do the same, but if they give me that weird stare, then I will say, you know like in the olympics, lol.

Then they ask for numbers, and I tell them 115/145 and then I have to convert it to lbs for them, so I just say 255/320 and they usually think that I am like olympic caliber, lol.

I then lol and say, yeah maybe in the 63kg female class under my breath, lol

Tore a chunk of skin off my thumb and had to powerclean with straps. Never again. My rack is pretty shiit to begin with but with straps I was grotesquely catching it with my elbows almost pointing straight down. 100kgx2 top set, 20+ singles from 80-90 from the hang.
