that feeling when you bought a house that has a basement but the house is so old the basement only has 6.5' walls :/
Any suggestions on a power rack that would fit ?
I'll get some pictures tomorrow and post them. I have AC duct work running down the middle of the ceiling etc...the house is 70-80 years old.

You could take a hacksaw to the uprights of a taller rack.
Or maybe you could position the rack such that the uprights go in between the joists, and set the crossbeams as high as you can after that.
Will you be able to work in a cage that short though? I wouldnt want any shorter than a 7' rack personally. Maybe a half rack with spotter arms would be a better fit.

Hey, is there a less smelly option to horse stall mats? doesnt have to be as good, just something decent

Short answer...No. (Unless you want carpet).
Even thin as chit rubber puzzle mats are more expensive, and foam mats are crap and bad for your feet.
The smell isn't that bad and dissipates with time.
I like the slight rubber smell, because as soon as I smell it I know I'm entering the gym...and in a way it's motivating.Last edited by grubman; 10-26-2017 at 02:35 PM.

Well, a TDS Sumo Squat rack would fit. You could get a Body Solid Mult-Press rack like I have. Originally it was just temporary until I got a cage...but I've absolutely fallen in live with it. I wouldn't recommend it it you do heavy 1 rep max sets or dump weights regularly...but for bodybuilding, it's awesome for everything else.

you rang?
i wouldn't own this rack without help from IronGrandpa who spotted one on the East Coast and told me about it. In the end i don't regret the shipping (though i DO kind of wish i had taken advantage of The Network) because i knew i had limited options and this one of the few.
it's made by Pro-elite and if they don't seem to have the exact one on their website, they have a good version available through IronCompany's Bomb Proof line.

For gym flooring it's really a pick two out of the three kind of choice
Durable
Cheap
Odor free
Durable + cheap = stall mats
Durable + odor free = rolled rubber flooring
Cheap + odor free = puzzle matts▪█──────█▪ Equipment Crew #66 ▪█──────█▪

Thanks Dom. That setup would work perfect for my basement with the low ceiling.
But...over 2,000 just for the rack! WOW!
I'm going to do some searching on craigslist.

if i got 4x horse stall mats (each 4ft by 3ft), will they slide away from each other? I dont have a truck so grabbing 4x6 mats may not be feasible.
this will be from Tractor Supply Co.

the guys at TSC helped me roll up 2 and fit them into the back seat of my Corolla. I'm not sure what kind of car you drive but i think you can get it to work if you're clever enough. you should bring some string, and don't expect it to be easy to get them out of your car on you own.

I have 3x4 mats, and yes, they do slide away from each other a bit. Not while in use, but over time. Some of it may be just expansion and contraction, so I'm not sure larger mats would cure that.
Hasn't been a big deal, but I'll probably screw them into the subfloor at some point or maybe use some furring strips around the outside.

Each 4x6 mat weighs just over 100lbs. Moving 4 by yourself will be a good workout.
If you get half-size mats, it will be much easier because they will weigh around 50 lbs each.
The easiest way is to roll each mat and use a tie-down strap or nylon webbing wrapped around the rolled up mat. If by yourself, you can do a Reeves deadlift and carry.
I bought 5 full-size mats and they fit in the back seat of my Chevy Cruze. I had help loading the car. I unloaded by myself. It was a workout. Unfortunately, I bought these mats before I learned the trick of using a strap to keep the mats rolled up. We rolled up the mats and put them in the car. As soon as we let go, they unrolled as much as they could in the back seat. The next mat was slid into the unrolled mat. And so on. Not too bad. Unloading them was a bitch.O─O York Barbell Crew #53 O─O

My goal is to have so much equipment that I don't have room to workout. I am almost there. :)

This is why a $19/hr pu rental at Depot is a good idea...

To keep the mats from moving apart, try mat tape like they use for wrestling mats

I wish i had known to bring some ties or rope...i had the same issue. also annoying was the strong rubber smell in my car. it wasn't bad in my basement, but on the drive home it was a little annoying.
I was proud of myself for 'deadlifting' and carrying the first mat through the doorways and down to my basement all by myself, but not too proud to ask for help on the 2nd one...****'s heavy.
if you're worried about them slipping, put them front to back, instead of side to side. i did that at first and just from squatting they tend to slide apart just a tad. otherwise screwing or gluing them to a platform is ideal.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Recommended plate tree under $50? Will be storing about 455lbs in bumper plates from Rogue
I was looking at the plate holders that attach directly to the SML-2C rack but I think the plates would get in the way when doing squats/bench.
