I've said it before and I'll say it agian... the reason GSP will not be effective vs Silva is because GSP will NOT be willing to stand with Silva AT ALL. If GSP does nothing but takedown attempts he will be extremely one-dimensional and it will be very hard for him to get Silva down (repeatedly). GSP has lightening quick TDs but that's because he mixes in strikes... he wont strike with Silva just like he wouldn't strike with Dan Hardy. Sonnen at the very least was willing to trade strikes so he could get the TD.

that's because i'm the type of guy that thinks guys like anderson and muhammad ali (who anderson looks up to btw) are not as good as they think, they use the technique to make OTHER people think they are THAT good, and by then they already have them defeated. Anderson has a lot of weaknesses, the problem is that not many people can get in close enough without eating punches/knees to expose them, sonnen came the closest
GSP would own anderson if he got him down, it's that simple, anderson would be stuck and not be able to do anything, and if GSP actually had the mindset to do so, he definitely could finish him the way he used to do to people on the groundOWE ME reps for life: dcarrera

the real rason gsp takes guys down is because he ha better striking then everyone he has gone up against and is much bigger then them. Both of these go out the window vs anderson who has already beaten great wrestlers who are bigger then gsp.

you would have to at least say that Anderson has good BJJ, and, after tonight, good defense/standing up after takedowns. In pure wresting, GSP might own him through pure explosiveness if he rolls out his arsenal early, but to say Silva has no good defense against it is simply not true. GSP could grapple him easily for 5 rounds, but Silva could catch him like he did Henderson just as easily.

Silva now has 8 straight title defenses and 14 consecutive wins! You don't have to like him, but you have to respect that accomplishment! He's not as good as he thinks? Well what does that say about all the guys he has been beating? They all thought they were THAT good. You don't have to be a Silva fan, but refusing to acknowledge that the guy is a beast just makes you look ridiculous.

uh yeah, just watch chael's fight, without any excuses, chael dominated him by taking the fight to anderson's weaknesses, and anderson only beat chael because chael has that big bjj defense weakness...
GSP does not have that weakness, if he does what chael did, he will beat andersonOWE ME reps for life: dcarrera

first of all, he has had 8 straight title defenses
second of all i did not say he sucked, i said I do not think he is as good as everyone thinks
I think there are plenty of people that could beat him:
GSP, Shogun, Jon Jones, even chael could beat him with the right sub defense training
until he beats those guys, I refuse to believe he is the bestOWE ME reps for life: dcarrera

he had an injured rib and he is an olympic level wrestler best in mma
he wanted to sub chael also and when he went for the sub got it pretty easily
gsp would not be able to take him down and would be embarrassed on the feet like every single fighter anderson has fought.updated 2011

I hear what you're saying, and obviously this kind of debate is fun to have, but you will never acknowledge that he's the best, because there will always be a next challenger and you will always say "He needs to beat **** to be the best." And when he inevitably loses (if he doesn't retire first) then you'll say "See?"

GSP can win. If he explodes straight out and doesn't get caught in standup. Most people that do well against Anderson tend to be conservative in their strikes, etc. Chonnen was the only diff, and he got caught in a sub. It really depends on how GSP comes out. He would have to come out like a hurricane instead of trying to actually out-strategize Silva over several rounds, methinks.

well i'm just that kinda guy who sees his fighting style, and i did the same with muhammad ali, and I see a guy who is considered the best but I know there is a guy like Mike Tyson out there that will one day come to light and I will KNOW that guy will be better
I don't think being elusive is the best type of fighting style, SHogun proved that by beating machida, I'm just waiting for someone to do the same to silva
Maybe it's just a personal strategic belief, but I really think being elusive only takes you so far before someone defeats you with physics (force)OWE ME reps for life: dcarrera
