New Machine Head stream. Eyes of the Dead is one of, if not the, best songs on the album.

Citadel has grown on me a bit, but I still agree. I don't know why there's so much violin on the new album. I get that they were trying to make an album that flowed together as one, but it kind of falls flat when nearly half of the album is just violin and a little bit of guitars. With that said, Painters of the Tempest Part II, Pyrrhic and Blackholes are really awesome tracks.
I also thought the harsh vocals were better on Portal of I in general.
Listening to the Ghost Brigade right now...pretty good.Last edited by xITHYPHALLIC; 11-07-2014 at 07:40 AM.

For each and every time your failures will craft you, until fear of them is gone.
We all wanna be somebody, we just need a taste of who we are.

Damn, this new Kalmah stuff, er, new Ghost Brigade...no wait. The new Omnium Gatherum...no, that's not it either...the new Dark Tranquility...
All of these bands sound the same to me at this point. I can usually sit through a song or two before it all blends together. Totally forgettable for me. None of them are pushing any boundaries when it comes to their new music. Yeah, some of these bands have a decent back catalog, but it honestly blows my mind that they keep putting this vapid crap out "die hard" fans continue to buy it.
And yes, I have changed my tune. A couple of years ago I would have been all for buying new metal music outright - but now the level of rehashed garbage is off the charts.

Wow wow wow there, Kalmah's new albums are great and sound nothing like their old stuff. Compare Seventh Swamphony to Swamplord or They Will Return, both sound like Kalmah, but totally different. Black Waltz doesn't really sound anything like the rest of their albums. For The Revolution I only really like 3 songs.
I haven't heard the other bands you mentioned, but since Kalmah is one of my favorite bands I thought I'd respond as I think at least with them their music has totally changed and evolved. Cilhdren of Bodom evolved, mostly in to crap then back into mediocrity, but they still changed and their in the sameish grouping of bands. Not part of any crews crew

Yeah, I probably lumped a few too many bands in there. I was just trying to think of bands that fit under the "Finnish melodic metal" flag. The point still stands that there is a good deal of bands that literally do nothing novel when they release new music. They just shove the same old crap down people's throats and they're all the happy to eat it up.

I went into this album with only fair expectations, I wasn't expecting another Blackening and at first I had a stale taste in my mouth. Now We Die, Killers & Kings and Ghosts Will Haunt my Bones really start the album off on a familiar Blackening/Locust note, but from Sail into the Black through Imaginal Cells are all great. The only song I really don't like is Take Me Through the Fire, it doesn't really add anything to the album and just kinda feels tacked on. I actually deleted it from my album and rearranged the songs so the progression is Damage Inside -> Imaginal Cells -> Game Over as the album closer.
The album is starting to really grow on me though, and it stands out more in MHs overall discography than Locust did. I'd give it an overall 4/5.STL Cardinals
