On the modem tones Barrel Aged topic...
Some of you undoubtedly noticed that we did not the release the bourbon barrel-aged version we’d been planning to bottle. Here’s the story: we had some concerns about a possible Brettanomyces infection in those barrels (they were the only ones to have previously held beer), and there was no way we were going to risk releasing bad bottles to you all. So we decided to pitch our sour culture into them, which should give us a bourbon barrel-aged sour imperial stout in 3-6 months. Turning lemons into lemoncello…
I didn't think I'd find Pliney any fresher than the 5 day old batch I had a few weeks back, but the ones I saw today were bottled Tuesday. Once again, had to buy them just because of the date.

Man, this has been the most poverty week for beer ever.
Anyone following me on untappd has prob seen the most 1 star reviews I've ever given... lol
Only good beers I've drank recently have been head hunter, a local golden berry weisse, and a tiny sample of red poppy.
Apparently my city is dry as fuk on the "good beer" front -- with the exception of a few logsdon and velvet merkin sightings at $10 / 10oz pour.
Good news is our DIPA goes on tap today at 3 spots. Can't wait to try it!Common Sense Crew

o.O
I have a 5 gal set up for brewing. I also have an electric range now...
Can you do 1-2 gal batches in a 5 gal setup?
I feel like the 5+ gal carboy might cause issues. Back pressure like cars? i dont know... my first brew is getting close to 3 years now.... jees
oh yea... drinking one of these

there is a warmth with spice effect. sips at first are heavy with spice which is awesome. it slowly fades to a pumpkin taste. the end is malty

Small batches aren't an issue with a larger setup. With a big primary the carboy will just fill up with CO2 from fermentation and itll be fine. It's an issue if you try to put a small batch in a secondary vessel that is substantially larger than the batch. Oxidation risk etc. I have a 3 gal better bottle for small batches with secondary aging on spices or fruit.
I am going to try and get to the hardware store this week for some hard foam board insulation for my keezer. With the bike accident everything got put on hold, but I am pretty mobile now and should be able to finish this up already. I am going to try and make more beer in the next few weeks. Doctor said the wound VAC should have my gash closed up in a week or so.[IIFYM]

i was hoping the co2 would fill the extra space adequately. I have no 2ndary plans yet which works out. Im wanting to do 1-2 gallons since electric stoves suck for BTUs.
ive been thinking of heat containing setup for the small batches too.
last note, any places that sell 1 or 2 gallon brew ingredients =\ i still dont trust myself to make my own🎄⛄🎄In🎄⛄🎄

Gotta agree with the positive sentiments about Golden Road's IPL.
Even having had a Duet just before, the IPL was still exceptional. Crisp. A total bouquet of hops. Not like baking cocoa bitter but fresh. tropical, and just a bit dank. The only aspect I wasn't on board with was a super-mild menthol, yeast-like thing toward the bottom of the glass. Otherwise, tits.
Happy the Misc recommended this. Really do not like their Point the Way IPA and nothing else I've had from Golden Road has been memorable. So I woulda skipped it otherwise.Run. Rave. Repeat.

What is this deliciousness you speak of??
Sure. I don't see why not.
What do you mean "ingredients" ? Like a pre-made kit that's just for 1-2 gal?
Most homebrew stores will be cool enough to put together a recipe for you if you tell them you wanna brew something similar to "xyz beer". Or you could google "xyz beer clone recipe" and then just plug the recipe into a homebrew recipe calculator and adjust it down to 1 or 2 galCommon Sense Crew
