Of course people are going to say they like the dad bod, because they either are too lazy to get in shape, or if female there partners probly look like this

This is not a "thing" or a "hot trend". It is just yet another vacuous article vying for space on the internet.
All it says in effect is that many women are not especially concerned with men's physiques, and would rate their financial security, sense of humour, compassion, etc etc above whether they have abs. This is not news - it is crashingly obvious. People that believe that if they get ripped are suddenly going to pull hot women are dreaming. The very fact that they think that means that they are going to struggle to pull anyone.
Even men, who in the main are somewhat shallower in the looks department, assuming they actually get to some reasonable level of emotional maturity, would prefer their partners to have characteristics beyond just a good physique.☻/

Doc, I can't imagine that you are anywhere close to 15% in that avatar, unless you carry a lot of fat in your back or thighs. Has to be below 12% IMO.
I personally carry most of my fat in my ab region, so for me to have abs like you have in that avatar I'd have to be at about 8-9%. I literally measured 10.7% coming out of my last cut and I had the outline of abs, but no abs. My back and chest measurements were really small though. Its not enough!

I do not understand the females that say they are insecure around great looking men. Sure it would be intimidating to approach them, not knowing what their ideal woman would be. But if I had it in the bag, knew the guy was into me, I would not hesitate. I would most certainly not react like this: vvvv
This clip was the first thing I thought of after reading the OP. Seeing it in the movie, I thought, WTF is wrong with her?
As for the "dad bod," I want someone who takes care of himself. I would not seek out someone who is less than me just to make myself feel better. My husband is not the "bodybuilder" type, though he used to be. When I met him he had an average, attractive build, but that wasn't my entire focus. There's more to picking your mate than what they look like.

Ok maybe I'm the only one here but I do look
Umh... (maybe that's why I'm a romance writer LOL)
But srs, I totally appreciate looking at a finely built muscular male body. It shows dedication, grit and a certain lifestyle that I appreciate. That said, I'm not going to give a hard time to my husband if he has periods of his life when he's got a "dad bod" just like I hope he can tolerate me not looking my 100% either.
There's looking/admiring and there's finding a life companion. Not mutually exclusive but not the same.
Women may say they don't care but don't believe it. I've seen plenty crazed women at romance novel conventions going nuts over the few male cover models. It was embarrassing!** Marie **

I never said I didn't look, McB. I said there's more to finding a mate than their looks. I never said anything about taking into account intelligence, humor, or charm when seeking out eye candy. Only looks matter in that situation.
Have I inserted enough shallowness back in here now, Mark?
I can spam this thread with pictures of Dwayne Johnson if that was not enough. It would make me extremely happy to do so.

I think this sums up the differences (in a general sense) quite well. Confidence, intelligence, personality, etc. seem to matter more than a 6-pack for many women - whereas, as you say, men will often be attracted to a good-looking woman even if she is a complete moron. Men tend to be more one-dimensional, at least with respect to initial attraction.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I deleted that post because for some reason I'm not able to put in writing exactly what I mean.
But yeah...I thought it was so funny I was reading the regular misc. once and this guy kept complaining about his boss, and how horrible bitch she was being etc. and the whole time she was yelling at him, he still wanted to have sex with her because she had big boobs.
Men are so bizarre.

If you say you're against the dad bod it's because you've never owned one, respectively. I was ripped once too and girls appreciate it but there is some je ne sais quoi about the dad bod that I currently have that girls swoon over(no e brag). And, as a plus, you can eat whatever. That being said mines a bit more muscular than the average dad bod so it's bulky, but nonetheless, a dad bod, and maybe that adds to the aura. To each his own.
