A lot of out of shape, strong people are surely going to disrespect you for this thread.
A lot of people can't understand that different people have different goals.
One thing to keep in mind is that the fatter you are, the worse of a workout you will get with your own bodyweight. You can't get creative if the basic movements (like pullups) are still in the 8 rep range and are still hard... If that's the case you can't move on to the crazy stuff.

Bodybuilding progress isn't about how hard something is. It is pretty hard to punch myself in the face repeatedly too. It's about stimulating hypertrophy through isolating specific muscles through a range of exercises designed to increase anaerobic strength and speed under increasingly heavy loads.
I've been down the whole calisthenic/cross training road before. I did P90X for an entire year. Here's the difference between what P90X did and what listening to the folks on bodybuilding.com did.
Yes, that is me flexing as hard as I can after an entire year of P90X at very high intensity. It was hard as s@#$. But did it help? Nope.Last edited by kanis999; 12-21-2012 at 10:51 AM.

Buddy, if that is your goal you can do it. As long as you understand you may have to combine advanced dieting and supplementation protocols (like those used by bodybuilders) with your bodyweight stuff.
If your cool only ever being as big as an olympic gymnast (who btw are stronger than 99% of the "internet bodybuilders" on here) then you can do it.
Diet is the key with getting shredded, tho. Just because you're not a bodybuilder, per se, does not mean the supplementation and nutrition is all that different.

exactly .. but what's the point if you can lift weights and you look like a monster but you can't do 10 pull ups ??
how many muscle ups you can do ?? i go to the gym sometimes when it's raining but i lift my body only and i do push ups .. maybe calisthenics didn't work for you but for me it's going great .. you have a good body ... keep it up and good luck ^^

The level of flaming and immaturity on this board is absolutely outrageous.
I give OP the benefit of the doubt as being a real person, because the same attempts have been made to discredit me (I am a trainer at a gym that trains over 30 professional fighters and has a celebrity clientelle too long to list)...
Basically the issue with bodyweight training is the weaker muscle groups (biceps, grip, triceps, abs, obliques) get a great workout, because they have adequate weight, but the large muscle groups (glutes, quads, hams, spinal erectors, traps) don't get a good workout, because you just can't hit them with enough tension to work the fast twitch fibers, with such little weight.

I can understand what you are saying, but why don't you go take a look at his previous post and threads. People who are posting their progress updates or being brave enough to post there over weight pictures asking for help...and what does he do? He puts them down saying they are fat and shouldn't be lifting weights because it will make them fatter. So my suggestion for you is to do a little research before calling people out and taking sides! Also the pic that he is using is a fake avi pic claiming it is him. This alone should get him kicked of this site. The pic has been proving fake, look at the above proof, if that’s not enough go to his previous post and you will find more or ask me and I can post it. Or maybe all reds just stick together? And one more question being that you are a trainer....in two months can someone change there body like dopey is claiming? NO!! Not even on AAS

Sure thing...
Dopeys real back from when he made his "back transformation thread" just 2 months ago. Note the moles on lower left and upper right, also note he has no lower back hair and that his arms arm very long.
Here is his fake avi pic. See how much shorted the arms arm. Also look at the placement of the fake moles (proof below) also notice the hair on the lower back.
And then there’s the moles. This is a zoomed in of the fake mole (upper right mole) you can see it was added to the photo (Photoshopped) . The mole is little squares that were added in Microsoft paint.
is that enough?

I don't see why you have to be on one side of the fence or the other. I do believe calisthenics are killer for upper body development. Infuse them with powerlifts like deadlift and squats and you have a very effective exercise set.
Also, for those saying that calisthenics neglect the lower back, you're wrong. Planches and press ups require phenomenal lower back strength and endurance.
Stay strong

I don't think they're gonna hit the posterior chain like squats and deads though. We have a lot of these on southbeach:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xw4jh-7yo28
As well as real gymnasts (I can tell because they are so short)... They do ridiculous things on the bars, you know bodyups where at the end they land standing on the pullup bar, doing backflips with twists down to the ground to land.
They all have small legs though. Think about it this way: Big legs are not only unecessary, big legs are dead weight when you are doing this type of gymnastics. Without a kip, if pullup-gymnastics is your training, leg muscle is counterproductive excess weight.
