Good sessions going on in here Tom. Sorry to hear that the bursitis acted up again. Mine usually doesn't act up during the workout but afterwards once the muscle soreness kicks in. Anyway, looks like you're staying after it and that's all that matters. Great work!

I practiced yoga daily for almost a year, and some days it seemed to help, others it didn't. I used the pigeon pose as part of my sequence, and it alleviated the pain temporarily but more for my sciatica. The only thing that seems to help the bursitis is ice and Ibuprofen.
There has to be something else going on, too. That old pain in my lower left (and sometimes right) back aggravates my hip when it flares, and sometimes it feels like the whole joint assembly is falling apart.
I've had Xrays, and nothing comes up. I've been wanting to get an MRI for a long time, but my wife's conditions keep superseding mine because they're more in the area of life threatening.
It is what it is.
Today I have trouble walking.
Thanks for your input. I know you want to help, and I appreciate it."Blessed be the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle." - Psalm 144:1

Awesome stuff. Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable is the hardest thing in life, but it's worthwhile to do.
Unfortunately a lot of your symptoms sound like mine when I discovered I had herniated discs - I'm hoping that's not the case. Have you tried a chiropractor at all? A good one can be a huge asset. I wouldn't be where I am at today without mine.

Marius, just wanted to pop in and encourage you since you have returned. I looked at your workouts and they look good.
No advice, but suggestion to keep that momentum and consistency and those two things will get you through in the long run.
Way to work through the pain. Not to injury, but within reason.

I've been having a lot of pain in my left hip and leg, something beyond or in addition to the bursitis. The inside of the joint feels weak with searing pain. No lifting yesterday. It feels a tiny bit better today. If I feel okay tomorrow, I'll do some clean and presses, just light ones.

Walk 1 mile
Tuesday 10/23/2018
Planning a walk for later before dinner.
I had a health assessment today. Blood pressure was way up. That was very worrisome because I just had a physical three months ago, and my BP was 120/80, where it's been since I was a teenager.
My fasted blood sugar was also elevated, 114...again extremely weird as it's normally in the low 90s.
My BF is also at 28%. That is unacceptable.Last edited by Marius_Ursus; 10-23-2018 at 11:20 AM.

Damn Tom, sorry to hear about the continuing pain. Hopefully the trend of it feeling a little better today continues.
Sorry to hear too about the elevated BP and fasted blood sugar. It's a good thing you're getting regular health assessments, though. That makes it much easier to experiment with diet to see what works for you and what doesn't.If in doubt, squat and run hills. So you walk into the gym and don't know what to do? Then squat and run hills. Have a miserable day at work and want to break someone's neck but aren't sure who's? Then squat and run hills. - Wendler

When I was going through the worst of it no, but I got that sensation a bit when I first got back to doing deadlifts so I don't do them now and I haven't felt it since. Heavy KBs and sandbags seem to be my go-to tools nowadays.
Look up Original Strength and the book Pressing Reset. I started doing these during my recovery and I find there still very beneficial nowadays. I do the resets most training days. You feel a bit like an idiot doing them at first but I think they have helped me a ton. I use them as my warm up.

Oddly, using my kettlebells is one of the things that aggravates it. I have some kind of muscle dysfunction in my sciatic bands that feels like searing, burning pain if I do any front-loaded exercises that involve spinal flexion. Front squats, KB cleans, KB swings. Deadlifts only hurt it a little and not every time.
I remember Original Strength referenced in one of my Dan John books. I'll have to look that one up for sure.

1x2x85 + 2 presses
1x2x105 + 2 pressess
1x5x115 + 5 presses
1x5x105 +5 presses
1x5x95 +7 presses
Nothing to write home about. I just needed to do something. I got a flu shot yesterday, and I feel a little crappy today, but like Greg said up above, I need to keep my momentum up. I'm not running a fever, so I went ahead and got something accomplished today.
I'm also planning another jog with my son tonight. I didn't mention that he ran with me yesterday. Today we went to the "barn telephone pole", about a half mile. Tonight we're going to the next pole down. We're adding one telephone pole per night until it's too cold to run outside.
The kid is awesome (like all our kids are). He's 8, my youngest.
EDIT - Actually there is something to write home about. I accidentally added 20 pounds to my press. HahahahaLast edited by Marius_Ursus; 10-24-2018 at 09:46 AM. Reason: Actually scored 7 presses on my AMRAP set.

Entry 2
Jogged with Jacob, went a little farther than planned. I really have no idea how far it is. I'll carry my phone tomorrow to get the pace count.
I started teaching him cadences today...the clean ones."Blessed be the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle." - Psalm 144:1

I spent most of the day in Albany with Jake at his physical, then went to the university's "Trick or Treat Night" after dinner...no time to work out, but we did walk around for two hours."Blessed be the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle." - Psalm 144:1

Thanks, Shane. I got sick right after that last entry. Everyone in the house has the crud, probably picked it up at the university. My son is so sick, he can't go trick-or-treating tonight...really sucks.
I haven't trained since that last entry...hopefully this weekend."Blessed be the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle." - Psalm 144:1

The jogging and KBs are looking good Tom. Sorry to hear that everyone has the crud. I'm bracing for it here. Just hoping not to get anything during Thanksgiving or Christmas. Hope y'all feel better soon and can get back to it.
