Some info for you guys to take on board:
Feedback > Privacy
If anyone gave a chit they'd find a way around your patent- you lawyer wants his money.
Think about doing the opposite- telling the right people your idea and getting constructive feedback is key to eliminate any future regrets. 99% of people you'll speak to IRL will CBA to copy your 'idea' and may just provide funding for equity instead. Make sure you speak to the right people.
Do your costing properly; if you have staff- take on board their holidays off... potential sick-leaves, seasonality of sales etc. Go into VERY SPECIFIC detail. Minimize risk.
Don't be afraid to walk away from your dream early instead of hoping it'll work and losing all those $$$ you've been saving up. More ideas will come.
Is it a business or just a hobby?
Your idea doesn't have to be Unique, but Compelling- eg. is it faster, cheaper or better quality than competitors?
Take into account when costing the value of your TIME, if you're earning $50k per year in your current job and you give that up for your business which will make you $25k profit (with more effort most likely), don't bother.
Test Test Test, and test some more.

I'm not a big believer in "the big idea" approach to business....I feel like this is the biggest pitfall for most young want-to-be entrepreneurs. We are obsessed with hitting home runs and developing new/exciting/revolutionary ideas.
Guess what? Hitting a bunt and taking 1st base will lead to scoring points and winning games.
Business is not as complicated as people like to make it sound. Find a product you can buy for cheap in bulk and find consumers that will buy said product for less.

Came up with an idea to make websites for businesses.
It is quick to do, and if you build 140 websites over time, it works out to be about $10,000.
If you can build that many over 1-2 months, you can make decent money on the side. More details in sig.A Crypto project I invested in that may pump before December 30, 2018: (Matrix AI Network, MAN)

In. I am personally trying to think of something that could be large on the internet, the thing is what... I have the coders and what not to accomplish what i want to do, but the question is what to create.. Needs to be something fresh, something that everyone would want to go to every day and to have that there ******** addictive effect.

Yeah i agree. Its like anything else, even lifting. People think all they need is the perfect workout or the perfect routine but the truth is it takes time and consistency. Just like any business you have to start up, build a reputation and customer base, stay consistent and build that bitch up one penny at a time.

Have the opportunity to do research under one of two of my economics professors - one is heavily involved in trading, including managing his own hedge fund, day trading, forex, etc. The other has pretty much written the book on Money and Banking (literally used his books for his classes) and has taught at Oxford, etc. Either way, I hope that the experience will shed some light on what I exactly have going for me after next year.. dat job market is scurrrry.

I've had a few ideas for some businesses about measuring the effectivesness of marketing through social media and technology where I think there is a lot of information unaccounted for, also relating that to politics to better target supporters in political campaigns
Information is the blood line in marketing, lots of money to be made by those who possess itIf you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary

best advice in this thread that was not even talked about by anyone.
I agree 100% younger people want to hit not just a home run but a grand slam of an idea and just look at ******** or twitter and aim for that which is beyond unlikely but still possible.
Nothing wrong with getting into a established market and just doing something slightly different might be all you need.

I think it has to do with the hype around ******** and the fact it could have been anyone with such a simple idea that has changed the world. The chances of creating another is so small and unlikely that it would be better to focus on looking to improve or create a niche in products and services we already use. Surely every product can be improved and there are new ways of implementing those products in places that have been overlooked. I think the most important part of entrepreneurship is discovering how you are different than your competition and those products and services which already exist, and what is it you can offer that I must have your product.
If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary
