I picked up a bunch to flip a year ago, they are still hanging out in the living room. My six year old calls them strong balls. She struggles with the 70 but can pick it up. She high pulls the 45.

My 3 year old picked up my 25 pound kettlebell the other day. Perfect form and she even farted at the top. She looked around and when she saw me watching her she said "I pooped".

She also insists on sitting on the loading pin and plates if I am doing any kind of lat or tricep pulldown.

On spread. Watched this on a flight the other day, since the discussion here had me intrigued. Flight landed with 20 mins left in the movie. Thought about waiting for my trip next week to see the end, but decided at 8 pm last night it couldn’t wait. Quick trip to the store (I prefer physical media+digital) and started the movie from the beginning.

As much as I enjoyed it on the plane, it was 10x better on the big screen and 7.1. My son pulled out the Atari 2600 re-issue we have and was looking for the Easter egg this morning.

Never would have picked it on my own - thanks for the recommendation!

Funny timing because I came downstairs this morning and my kids were watching it again, it's just a fun movie. The Holy hand grenade, Aliens M41A pulse rifle (used by Art3mis), Chucky, Zemeckis Cube (nod to Back to the Future), mention of the Harkkonan drop ship (Dune), and the Glaive from Krull were some of my favorites that showed up in that film. Glad you enjoyed it!

Be careful when practicing cleans with the small ones. When I first bought a bunch of KBs, I thought it would be safer to learn how to do a clean using an 8kg bell, but the smaller size ended up landing on my wrist joint instead of on my forearm. I whacked my wrist really hard and it hurt for a few days. 16kg or 20kg should be okay, though to be honest, I found that I learned more about controlling the bell when I used even heavier ones.

Is there any advantage to using competition Kettlebells?, I've never used a comp bell, if I understand correctly, it's easier to learn good form and make incremental weight increases using competition bells, as they're all exactly the same size.

Yeah, I find that argument compelling. It certainly would have prevented me from banging my wrists with the small 8kg bell way back when.

However, for some reason, despite owning several competition style bells, I find myself using the cast iron ones more frequently.

I'm taking two trips in the near future where I'll be making some time to hit some famous gyms - next week I'll be in LA and first on my list is Gold's. Considering the proximity, I'll have to at least check out Muscle Beach even though it looks like a dump. And then in a month, I'll be in Chicago making time to hit Quads.

Any tips from anyone that has gone to Gold's? Best/worst times to go? I'll be working during the day out there, so early morning or night are my only options. Not sure if there's a better time to try to run into any of the somewhat famous bb'ers that train there.

There's nothing special about Muscle Beach. It's something I'd just check out to say you've been there and nothing more.

For Gold's Gym, I'd say the "famous" people are there early morning or late at night. And that all depends on what their schedules are like with various engagements.

Stayed home from work today with Man Flu.

That meant spending all day with my wife (an RN) who does not recognize the severity of my illness. Hopefully, it does not kill me tonight and I can go back to my peaceful office tomorrow.

Try living with a renal doctor, her usual response, "I don't think it has anything to do with your kidneys, try popping down to the gym for an hour, it will help to take your mind off things".

Never did Muscle Beach but it's on my list. Golds is a nice big gym. Had trouble finding a barbell to put in one of the many racks. Lots of rooms to acquaint yourself with. Can't say on times - female talent was good and aggressive (hot chick followed me around trying to get attention the entire time...sadly I was married then). Hell, that night I was solo dinnering and the waitress sat at my table the blew off the other customers chatting me up and trying to get together after her shift. I'm not that popular anywhere outside LA. Maybe I need to go back!

Quads was cool. Was a long time ago but they had a big poster of Ed Coan's back in the rack - inspirational. When I was there they had bumpers and a platform on the 2nd level. Of course they yelled at me for dropping the weights (this was before Crossfit and OL regained popularity). Manager and I spoke - nicely because I'm nice - and I mentioned maybe the equipment was on the wrong floor as bumpers and an OL platform are made for dropping the weights (under control). Within a month or so they relocated everything down. Might be my contribution to Quads.

A few of the bells I ordered have arrived.

This is the Kettlebell Kings 28kg when I opened the box.

I emailed KK that picture, they said

"Thanks for following up. We appreciate you providing an image of the bell. After review, it looks like it is packaging material from shipping. We always try to package the items well enough with extra padding. Occasionally, when they are mishandled in shipping, packaging residue can get on them. You can clean it with a tooth pick and might use warm water with soap as well to loosen it up.

For the inconvenience, I've created a 10% coupon code that you may use on your next purchase. Please use ____"

True, there is some packaging material shoved into the gouge. I took that first pic without doing anything other than running my finger over it. But, to me, and of course I see it and feel it in person, it's clearly more than packaging material.

    A cleaned up pic
