Those appear to have been repainted. I'm guessing they were grey/green originally.

I asked a question in the York thread about these round circles that occur during the casting process.
On one of my Ivanko CBPP plates, I have one of these circles. I haven't seen these on Ivanko plates, for the most part. Does anyone else have this?

I'd try to tell you those were alien fingerprints, but it isn't so simple.
When you cast a high quality plate, you have two sides to the sand mold. The sand is very fine with a binder to keep it together and make for as nice a cast surface as possible. One mold can often survive for multiple uses, but whether it does or not, it still needs structural support to keep all the sand together and in the shape you want. That's accomplished by molding the sand inside a larger frame, which has posts that the sand can bind to. What you're seeing here is the imprint or ghost of one of those posts that projected a little too far from the frame. Not a defect.

Picked up 300lbs of Revolvers yesterday for $.50/lb! First time in the last couple years I've seen them within an hour of me. Next I will have to clean them up and be on the lookout for the smaller OM series plates to complete the set.

On those blue plates, those aren't post marks. These holes are much larger and much more prominent. I bet if you stick a box cutter blade into them, they'll come up as foundry putty or bondo. Looks like they were significantly over weight and they drilled out some metal and filled it with some light composite. Not the best job I've seen.
And to the question about post marks on the edges of the plates, the posts are located there too. They're needed to keep the sand in place everywhere as the two halves are sandwiched together -- if sand falls out, molten iron moves in and you get a messed up casting. Also, understand that they don't exactly use pure pig iron. This may not be old car parts melted down like for most plates, but it won't be laboratory samples either. When the iron is molten, it can have little bits of stuff that flash or boil off unexpectedly, and that can knock sand loose too.

Picked up some more 45s. One of the pairs (the unbranded pair on top) is different from the other unbranded plates I have.
-Plate dimensions: It is a deeper deep dish than the others, but has a smaller diameter and the rim seems thinner. Also the alignment of the "45" to the word "OLYMPIC" is different. I know dumb.bell stated this difference in thickness earlier; this is the first "deeper" plate I have actually seen. The other unbranded plates I have are the same thickness and diameter as my branded plates (O2B and O series).
-Stamped: There is also a letter "B" stamped under "STANDARD" and the words "IVANKO" and "TAIWAN" stamped on the hub, none of which are stamped on any of my other unbranded plates. The letter "B" is in the same place as the letter "A" that is stamped on some unbranded 25s that I have, and I have seen other unbranded plates with a letter "A" stamped on that part of the plates. Is this to identify the foundry or something, like with the small letters on coins identifying where they were minted?
-Edges/Surfaces: Some of my unbranded plates (including this pair) have sharper plate edges compared to other unbranded plates that I have that are more smooth like O/OM series. They all fit similarly snugly on bars.
360 more pounds of Ivankos to clean up.
IVANKO and TAIWAN stamped on the hub.
Small "B" stamped on the plate under the "D" in "STANDARD."
Small "A" stamped on the plate under the "D" in "STANDARD" on a 25lb unbranded plate.

Does Ivanko make a black plate that does not have any markings on the back? I found a 10lb plate and the front looks identical to my OM that I painted black but there are no markings on the plate. It doesnt look machined anywhere as well.
edit:found a post by morebarbell (#2666, page 89)... i think these are the O2B series platesLast edited by TipsyBanker; 09-05-2015 at 05:04 PM.

Is there an actual O plate? I know of the economy O2B sets and the OM set. I have seen someone mention an in between "O series" in the middle of those 2 quality-wise. Maybe it was just a mistake but I can't find much mention other than the OM and the plates with imperfections being sold as O2B.
edit: Yes there is an O series - good info previously talked about in this threadLast edited by MTTCHD; 09-10-2015 at 07:13 PM.

This question merges with my previous post. I am about to pick up a decent size haul of Ivanko plates. They look like OM series - same color scheme as is typical. They look pretty old. The seller says they have no markings on the back of the plates. From what I researched after my last post, this is typical of the O2B and O series (which exists, good info around page 47?). The person in this thread who confirmed there was an O2B, O and M series said the difference in the O and M is a lack of lettering on the back of the O/O2B, while the M has Ivanko M series markings as well as silver lettering. The seller in my case might have O/O2B plates that have been repainted to look like M.

The difference between the two are really that the M are machined on most surfaces and the O are not. The stamping on the backs is just a way to identify them. The original paint color has proven to be difficult to match so if they have been repainted it should be noticeable. If they were O series and then just the lettering were painted silver it could be difficult to tell so you can only go by the stamping. None of this really matters for purchasing because there won't be much of a difference in price between them anyways. Good luck with your purchase. Post pics when you get them.

youre not supposed to be openly selling items (or soliciting sales) on this forum, I believe it is against the rules. You might want to delete that post.
THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO POST STUFF YOU HAVE FOR SALE!!!
I'm seeing a lot of people and (some not noobs!) posting items they have for sale in this section. That is not what it is for and is against board rules. There is a craigslist sticky for posting great deals you see but if it isn't a great deal expect it to be commented on negatively.
From this point forward any "for sale" threads in this section will result in the threads deletion and a moderator neg.
A second offense will result in a ban.
Third offenses will result in your permanent removal as a spammer.
