Got a nice easy 40 miles in yesterday between rain showers. Almost time to look into arm warmers, a little brisk.

What do you guys thing, disc brakes on a road bike?
I must say I have never needed to get on the brakes that hard that I have thought damn these suck, wish I had disc brakes. Downhill bike different story.
I don't see changing from the rim brake wheel for a while.

Was considering buying a 29er single speed but since I have had this frame hanging in the garage for years I've decided that i am going to build into a single speed. I have the original matching rigid fork but it is threaded. probably going to buy a new threadless rigid fork to make it a rigid single speeder.

Hopefully pulling the trigger on a 2013 Specialized Rockhopper.
They also have a 2012 Rockhopper Comp for $100 more, but I really have no idea if it'd be worth the extra money.

Edit: Or I just found the 2013 Rockhopper Comp for $200 more than the base.

I'd go with the 2013 Comp if you can afford it. The fork is an upgrade to the Suntour pogo stick. My 29er came with the XC28 and it was a decent fork. Definitely better than an entry-level Suntour.
Also, in that price range look at Airborne Bicycles.

I have a few fixed gear brakeless bikes and nothing is better than riding downtown during rush hour flying through traffic.

My A race of the year a Century ride is Saturday. The longest ride I've done is a 70 miler so I feel a little undertrained. I would have like to get an 80 miler in there but here I am.
