You are right we are our own worst critics. And I will say that singlets are maybe not the most flattering of attire either!!
I may have to take you up on the freezer space! Ours are all almost full and we have chickens that must go in them next week! At least I will be cutting them up this time and not freezing them whole. Not that I am looking forward to deboning 60 birds next week.
Thank you Joel! I will bring the rattlesnake venom with me! It is gonna be EPIC!!Spoon Barbell Club

Thank you Drea!
Okay, so things did not go as well as I had hoped on Sunday. If feel like this is my go to saying atm.
So, we made it to Belton ok. It was a long ride and woke up at 63.1. Which was no big deal since I had to be 63 or under you 1:45 but it meant no food or water til weigh in. Which sucked. So weigh in was fine. 62.6. Got some food and a ton of water. Got to watch the heaviest male lifters which was cool. There were some really good lifters there. Warm ups started and everything was going well. They started the meet and I realized the card lady was not really on top of things which made it slightly difficult. On snatch I made my 42 opener easy. Then missed 45 twice. Falling on my butt on the last try. Made me mad to say the least. Warmed up for CJ and it went smooth. Nialed 51 in warm up so called for 52 as the opener. Nailed 52. Called 55 and made it. The clean was a breeze. I thought I had the jerk nailed but I got 2 thumbs down and only one up so they red lighted it. I wanted to kick that damn bar. I was so mad. Then I called for 56 to follow and just froze. All I wanted to do at that point was throw the bar across the room, definitely not an option. So I went 42/52/94. Meh. But I did get the 55 clean and that bar was overhead!! I know it is supposed to be blue plates but the collars they used at this meet weighted 2.5 K each so if you didn't know that you would think there was 5 less on the bar. It is all good. I have calmed down and am ready to get back to training next week. I made one of my goals. I got the 55 clean and it was easy. 45 on snatch is in the bag just need to work on keeping it close.
Here is the vid.
In this pic you can see why they red lighted me. It was the left elbow.
This pic is from warm up. The girl I am talking to won world masters about 6 weeks ago. She is so nice and just awesome!! She also won the meet.
And if you are still reading, sorry it took til today. We had 58 chickens to butcher yesterday. URGH. But they are all done. I will have to debone and package them later this week. But we had a baby yesterday!! And it was a little heifer/girl! WHOOHOOO!!!!
This was taken about 10 min after she was born. And this one is from this am. I think I will name her Dot for the little spot on her forehead!
I am waiting for one more momma to calve. I can't wait! Hoping she has a girl as well. But we shall see as long as it is healthy I am happy.
I did go to the gym today and snatched to 40 and CJ'ed to 48. That chit was heavy. I am still worn out from the adrenaline. Will go 2 more times this week to stretch, roll and do guns and abs and no oly til I get my new plan from coach and start next week. Here is to going 47/57/104 at State in January! BOOM!!Spoon Barbell Club

JJ,
This is my cousin Lu Yong.. You can watch the whole thing, or skip right to 2:42. You did the same he did. They gave him redlights. Then he got really pissed and tried again on the third attempt. He bitchslapped gravity and told the world don't mess with China, and WON GOLD for the motherland..
That's gonna be you next time.. Valens Ursea.
55-kg is the equivalent to the blue plates in training world.. You trained hard to hit that number.. Well done!!

Congrats on the meet Jani. Your totals don't really show how close you were to hitting your goal of 100. I watched before reading, I thought you had that second attempt at 45 on snatch. And you obviously have 55 on c&j, just one of those technicalities. As someone not familiar with all the rules, what exactly was wrong with that anyway? Why does it matter if your elbow is slightly bent when you're catching the jerk if you end up with the bar locked out over head in the end.

That is a great question, bro..
It's primarily safety. Our tendons and ligaments exhibit visco-elastic behaviors. For example, if you place a 45-lb bar on top of jello, you know what will happen. But if you place that same bar on top of wood or steel, the bar will be supported in a more stable manner.
The same thing with our musco-skeletal system. If we 'receive' something overhead in a 'soft' lockout, like jello, there will be risks for injury. But if we turn everything on and receive the bar overhead in a 'hard' manner, like the barbell on steel analogy, the bar will not hurt us.
This is why in weightlifting speed and explosive power are essential, because the lifter must get in the final position as quickly as possible in order to receive the bar 'hard.'
Hope this helps.This above all..

Thank you so much Tamara and thanks for listening to me Sunday via text and I ranted and was pissed. You are a really good friend!
She is a cutie and I am hoping for a second one any time!!
Now the red plates would be very cool cause that would be above BW!
Thanks Lori! That clean was nice. It was easier than I ever imagined it would be as well! So here is to MORE!!
Thanks Josh. I thought I had that last snatch too til I fell backward. And that bugs me too about the total not reflecting how close I was. But it is okay. I have almost 3 months to get it down and nail it at State. And see below for Joel's explanation. I was gonna say cause that is the rules! LOL!
That even helped me. Thanks Joel! WOuldn't want to jack up the elbows or shoulders for sure. I am excited to get my new plan from Charis and see what the plan is to overcome the little stuff!Spoon Barbell Club

Safety first, JJ.
As intimidating as WL may seem, it is actually the SAFEST sport. The lifter either makes the lift or not. There is no room for cheating because the lifts happen in seconds.. Moreover, the movements are predictable – feet go from hip width to shoulder width, hips go up then down, arms lockout, etc.. Most field sports have unpredictable movements, like soccer, which has the highest rate of injury.
In fact, even badminton is more dangerous than WL.. haha..
http://www.exrx.net/WeightTraining/Safety.html
The other benefit of participating in this sport is that not only does it make athletes stronger and more explosive as you already know, it also conditions the athlete to ‘receive heavy loads.’ What this means is that if you get hit in football or boxing, for example, your WL training will definitely come into play because your ligaments, tendons, etc, are used to receiving heavy loads when you do the snatch, clean & jerk.
It’s a great sport!This above all..

I understand that it's safer and more stable to receive the bar in a "hard" manner, but I was just curious what exactly the rules say that makes it illegal. In powerlifting, there are plenty of things that could make the lifter less stable and more susceptible to injury (i.e. rounded lumbar on deadlifts, knee valgus on squats, flared elbows on bench, etc.), but they don't disqualify the lift.

I remember when I started my little brother told me to make sure I had a spotter. I told him I always had a spotter, gravity!
Why is cheerleading not on that list? I swear it would be way up there!
You are right WL is safe. If you don't make it no big deal. It is really easy to bail.
