The first few weeks are REALLY tough. After the first week or two your body starts to adapt and it's honestly not so bad. Give the intermediate a try and stick with it for a full 8 weeks or so. If you are concerned about overtraining, start with a very conservative weight. There really is no harm in starting light and it will give your body extra time to adapt.

Believe me when I say you will be needing the rest you get between days. If you so desire you can always do cardio, core, or arm work on the off days, but I don't think you will be left feeling unfulfilled. Give yourself a few weeks to adapt before adding those in though.

I'm doing upper back/bi's tonight(did squats last night, no deads tonight). Bent over BB rows, T-bar rows, pullups, lat pull downs, preacher curls, hammer curls, and reverse curls to finish off the arms. 4x10 for everything except pull ups/lat pull downs- failure/drop sets.
I'm new to the whole home gym thing. Got a Powertec rack, lat pulldown, curl bar, and a couple oly bars. Getting a bench in a week, ordered today. WASSUP everyone!!!!"When you give up liberty for security you lose both."

no worries, i watch tons of stuff i don't really intend to buy. i've got powerblocks to 90, and a pair of 100 pound hexes, so i'm ok for now. i'm actually just waiting to find the upgrade kit for my powerblocks. the only reason i picked up the 100s is because i got them with a cheap adjustable bench (for my son) for $20 or 25. if it was the same ones, though, ya got a good deal!

i'm taking my lat pulldown machine and the pec-dec i bought to my dad's house thursday to work on 'em. the pulldown machine is just going to get sanded and painted. the pec dec is going to end up being a low row/pulldown machine. i stripped everything i could unbolt from the pec-dec, i've got to cut a bunch of stuff off of it. then i've gotta have my dad weld a few things on.
couple questions:
i want to replace the guide rods on the pulldown machine. the ones i took off of the machine were solid, i've got a pair of hollow rods that are the same size. they came from a different pulldown, and are perfect (except they are hollow). think they will be ok?
does anyone know where i can get one of those plates to add weight plates to a stack? i'd like to check some out to see if it would be too hard to make, or cheaper/easier to buy one.
if anyone is interested, i'll post pics when i get going."If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." -Thomas Paine

Animal - NYBB sells a top plate with horns for weights. You'll have to find out the distance between the rod holes to make sure it'll work with your unit.

Todays workout - Front & side delts, tris & bis. I worked straight bar curls into my bicep workout, I'm tore up! Not sure why I ever got away from these.

That was me last night, without the deads. Also threw in some GHR's and calfs. Family stuff prevented me from getting to it during the day, so I didn't finish till about 11:15 pm last night. That's why I love the home gym....it a 24 hour facility!
My legs are little woozy this morning. Cardio later, somehow I'm going to try to run 3 miles.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

Yeah, it's ribbed but I dont mind it at all. Keep in mind that most power bars will be like that. Glenn Pendlay himself answered some questions on why it is ribbed and it's like that, since some weightlifters prefer no collars on their bars, and the ribs will hold on to the plates better. I look at it as a plus, since the muscle clamps will grab better on the bar. The noise sucks though.
