I could possibly see in the future some new teachers being hired as teachers/security so they would have to be trained to do both before being hired. Like you, I don't really have the answer for this but if your goal is to stop the shooter immediately you are going to have to have it done from people on site. One security guy walking around the school grounds isn't going to cut it.

I wonder what percentage of society is proficient with firearms now, or sportsmen who could be made proficient with a 6 week course. If it's 3%, then that's probably 3 in every school. I imagine in most schools as soon as a single shot is fired it can be heard throughout the school. So now the scenario is, you fire one shot and you've got 3 people racing towards you with weapons. If you're 19 and crazy enough to shoot up a school, that might be deterrent enough to make you rethink your actions.

6 weeks? That's one hell of a lot of rounds. If you're talking a 9mm, I've seen students who never held a pistol put the entire clip in center mass @ 15 yards in 4 to 5 good range sessions.

Targets don’t shoot back. Honestly, a cop that’s never been in a firefight might have a little bit of an advantage over a proficient civilian ccw holder, but how much? Well, if all cops act like those cops did in Florida, we will never fcking know.

At least if a few teachers had had guns, we might be able to say.

But since all the guns of the good guys were sitting in the parking lot in holsters, we will never know.

If you put a 30 year career man who took the job as an easy slide into his pension vs. a Bubba that collects and loves guns, at the range every weekend, owns a half dozen pistols and has an American flag somewhere on his truck - I'll put my money on the Bubba every time.

I was competing in a rifle competition out to 500 yards back in the 70's, the cadets were there competing against each other in a short competition using 22's, after they were done, the police who were competing long range with us decided to throw a team together as a fun shoot against the cadets. The cadets smoked their asses, testimony that familiarity with a weapon wins most every time. I too would choose bubba.
