Imagine being a middle class family earning $80k per year. You spend 18 years saving for your kids college fund so they can get a degree and earn a better living than you. You skip vacations, don't fund your retirement, and don't have any investments. But you put away enough to do the right thing and take care of your kids first, and you have just enough to pay for their 4 years of tuition.

Christmas of their freshman year, they come home looking like this. They also explain the privilege you have for being white, and rant about Marxism being the path forward to equality.




Meanwhile, you're going to be working until you're 90 to help pay their bills when their gender studies degree doesn't pay off. You can't retire because you didn't save or invest. Your kid tells you they hate you because you might have voted for Trump.

Not a scam. However you have to be careful with colleges or you’ll be in major debt with nothing to show for.

I spent 1 n a half years in cc and the gov paid for it all. Gave me taste of what topics I like and didn’t like and at the end of it I didn’t own anything.

Sometimes it’s also best to go to a college where you know they specialize in a certain area, like a surgeon or some chit like that

Most real jobs these days require a degree. I don't have sympathy for women's studies majors that work at starbucks. You set yourself up for failure from the start.

However, a degree that has actual value like business and STEM you can make a pretty decent living. It's a plus if work pays for your schooling too.

Most real jobs these days require a degree.

There are more high paying jobs that don't require a degree than ever before. So many software and tech fields only want certifications or proficiency. Sales and marketing jobs are almost entirely based on experience and skill. All of the trade jobs, including plenty that don't require digging ditches in the sun. Real estate, insurance, property management, etc don't care about degrees.

Unless you're looking to be a doctor, lawyer, or engineer, you can pretty much guarantee there's a quicker path than college.

People fail to understand that you could take an unpaid internship for 4 years and you'd be *way* ahead compared to a college grad- and it wouldn't cost you $100k out of pocket.
