Its profit making season boys
One month until the first regular season game
This sport is the profit making sport.
I had a nba guide from last year.... Will post it in OP when I get home.
here is something I wrote up last year:
My personal goal every night…
-Score 300 points on either site; easier on Fanduel
- To score 300 you need 5 points from a player for every $1,000 Fanduel and 6 on Draftkings
- Example: Kevin Love has a salary of $10,000 therefore I would want think to score atleast 50 on Fanduel and 60 on Draftkings before I think of putting him on my roster.
- The goal is to find the players who will give you the most points relative to their salary ( like stocks) you do not want to over pay for a players value, you want to find underpriced players.
Late swaps:
Fanduel does not have them, but Draftkings does. On fanduel ALL players lock when the first tipoff starts, but on draftkings your players do not lock until their specific game starts. This is a big tool because in the NBA there are a lot of game time decisions and late scratches, be careful on picking players who might not play on Fanduel. If you want to pick a roster then go relax and not have to worry about anything then you might like Fanduel better. If you are usually by your laptop or mobile then you can benefit from draftkings because you can catch breaking news and profit while other people have players in who are late scratches. Example… Kevin Love is a game time decision… if you play him on FD and he doesn’t play then you get a 0 for him. On draftkings if you find out he is out before his game starts you can swap him for other players who have not played yet.
What game type should I play?
50/50s are good for beginners. You need to be 50% of the pool of players ( on FD it is usually 100) and you profit 80% of your buy in. So if you bet $1 and you win then you get $1.8 (.80 profit) or if you bet $100 then you win $180 ($80 profit) . This game mode is easier to win in than other ones.
Head to head is pretty self-explanatory.
Leagues are basically just a mini tournament. You usually need a higher score to win but not as high as an actual tournament usually. You might have a 3,5,10,20,100,200 man league and you just need to finish in the top % to win. You would need to click on the game to find out how many spots pay out.
Tournaments are what I play a lot of because that is where the big bucks are. YOU WILL NEED A HIGH SCORE to win decent money in this game mode. I play it a lot because I always shoot high and do generally well in them. You can join a $1 tournament and win $350 or $700 Might as well put up a dollar or two in the tournaments to take your luck on striking big.
What buyin should I join:
I recommend smaller buy ins because statistically you won’t need as high of a score because new people will be in them. Instead of joining a $5 50/50 you are probably better off joining 5 $1 50/50s. You can join bigger buy ins, but obviously small buy ins will be easier.
What sites are helpful?
Rotoworld.com and twitter are two huge sites for the NBA in particular.
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure your player is playing and keep track of injuries. Type a players name in twitter or type it in rotoworld and you can get some news on them. It is very important to make sure your players are in.
Tips:
Use the value I posted in the beginning to help you make a team.
Use defense vs position as a tool as well. Examples: The eagles were not good against the pass this year so playing a QB/WR against them gave those players a boost. The nba is HUGE when it comes to do this. Pay attention to what teams are bad against what… and the opposite; becareful on what teams do good against certain positions. I certainly never play a point guard vs Chris Paul.
Check player logs… click on players name on the sites or look them up and you can see their recent production. If they have not been hitting the “value” I talked about earlier then generally it is a good idea to pass over them and look at other players. This is not always the case especially when injuries happen, but it is a general rule that can help.
Be careful about players who only do one thing…. Aka a shooter who only get points from scoring and no points from rebounds, steals, etc. IF they have an off shooting night they will dud huge.

Some quick notes for this year:
- The only teams that are looking at the same starting lineup as last year are the Raptors, Warriors, Clippers, Trail Blazers and Jazz... ONE OF THESE ARE NOT LIKE THE OTHERS.
- Dion Waiters is starting for the Cavs at SG so they might actually be good this year.
- Dwyane Wade is always hurt so that means Danny Granger and Norris Cole will be good value plays this year.
- Luol Deng, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are the new big 3 in case you didn't know.
- Mavs have Tyson Chandler, Knicks have Jose Calderon and Samuel Dalembert.
- Nerlens Noel is bake, '6ers will still suck.
- Pierce is a Wizard, Ariza is a Rocket, Parsons is a Maverick.
- Everyone on the Pelicans is probable or questionable for opening night except Davis + Asik.
- The HORNETS are BAKE, the Pacers are not.
- Rodney Stuckey will probably start at SG and Solomon Hill is the Pacers most likely SF, maybe CJ Miles.
- Arron Afflalo is smoking kush legally in Denver, Gallinari and JaVale McGee are also back.
- Steve Nash is Bake, Kobe is probable, Boozer is probably going to start at PF and Jordan Hill is getting his shot finally.
- Thaddeus Young is K-Love's replacement, so big ups to Brewer, Pekovic and K-Mart.
- Channing Frye is gone so the Morris twins both might be starters at SF/PF this year for the suns.
- Russell Westbrook's assists are on a hundred million trillion with Anthony Morrow starting at SG.
- Vince Carter is probably going to start at SF for the Grizzlies.

This Rose guy that the bulls have now is pretty buns.. he a rookie or play overseas or something?
2nd game.. not so much.
Gibson will be a top play if Noah is out later this month.
More notes, cuz I love NBA.
- Wiggins have it all. Looks like he's going to be the focal point of the Timberwolves Offense and will fill up the statsheet.
- I think with George out and Stephenson gone, Hibbert will be back to putting up big numbers.
- I'm really excited to play Vucci Mane on opening night.
- Bosh is going to be an elite DFS guy this year. If he's under 7.5-8k opening night, he's a must play. Bron gone and Wade always out.
- No Isaiah Thomas = more to love about Cousins. One less scoring threat out there and a guy that can get the ball down low.Last edited by jross2021; 10-08-2014 at 01:41 PM.

ah, thrad saved
good notes JR, we need sht like that. for now i make sure to study the box scores each night in an effort to get familiar with names that i dont know who (took that advice from you). minutes played to production ratio, etc etc
i just dont want to get to opening night and be lost. I have already noticed alot of the names in your notes (BOSH) who have already showed that they will step up. i did believe over the summer that bosh would get closer to playing his game. dude fills up the stat sheet when their arent so many stars around
that feel when i was unaware of quite a few of the line items in the notes. got some work to do.
at the least i am excited to be able to play on most days. football sucks because i find it tougher to manage my bankroll. you only get one weekend every week and so it's really in one shot. either you do well or you dont.
it's been up and down and i havent been able to tell if i completely suck or not. just feels like the floating avg joe
playing bball at least i can evauate what and how i am doing since i get more data points in a short period of time***Gender Non-Committed***

NBA is far and away my favorite sport, but I even had to do research and was surprised by some of the changes. I'm still trying to get caught up. Watching some of these pre-season games and I still get surprised by some of the changes.
And I agree 100%. NFL, I find myself going all in every week and hoping to double up or even better. In NBA, you learn quickly that you have to manage your bankroll. And it's easier because you get to play the next night too.
I wouldn't get too caught up in the box scores/pre-season games.. but it is nice to see knew guys and what they can do. Some of these teams are running their real rotations and getting their starters minutes similar to what they will get all season, but as you can see with OKC.. Westbrook and Durant won't be playing 12 minutes per game. Which also means that Jeremy Lamb probably won't be getting 35+ minutes most, if any night.
I'm really intrigued to see what OKC's starting lineup will be. I really hope Adams draws the start, but I doubt it.
Would love to see a starting lineup of:
Westbrook
Lamb
Durant
Ibaka
Adams
with a 2nd unit of:
Jackson
Morrow
Perry Jones
Nick Collison / Mitch McGary
Perkins

experienced DFS bball brah
what is your view on rostering a player like Josh Smiff?
a terribly inefficient dude on many occassions, but one who can fill up the stat sheet, even on an inefficient night. i know price is a factor, but since we dont have that what is your general view of a player like him?***Gender Non-Committed***

If you play on Fanduel, you seriously might have to roster him sometimes. They have terrible SF options, or at least did last year. I was playing Mike Dunleavy almost every day.
Smith is a good GPP play, pretty sure he won me some big money last year with a 50+ fantasy point night. I wouldn't play him in a cash game unless there were literally only like 4 games and the other SF's really stunk. I would roster him a lot in tournies on nights when I knew KD/LeBron would be super high owned, he was about 3k cheaper and he had a similar ceiling. There's just a lot of risk involved, of course.

Apparently the Pistons are done with the Josh Smith SF experiment and he and Monroe are battling for the PF spot.
I'd be surprised if they didn't both start though and Smith ended up at SF. I can't imagine Smith settling for a 6th man role, and do you really want Monroe on the bench, how many minutes could be possibly get with Drummon/Smith anyway?Last edited by jross2021; 10-14-2014 at 03:38 PM.
