@Farley #UPS The only time I went through security as a driver helper was when I was hired. After that, I never went to the office except to pick up my check. I always just met the driver in a Publix parking lot.
Definitely buy the upper complete. They are easy to put together, but you have to buy some extra tools and if it does not work properly, you won't have a real idea of where to attack the problem.
I would certainly put together the lower, though. I opened up a diagram on AR15.com, laid out all of the parts from the LPK on a towel and had it finished in about an hour. They are easy and can be done much quicker, but it was my first time.
If you put your lower together, then I would sit in the corner (facing the corner) for the front takedown spring. They tend to take off and I once lost the detent because it launched. Ever since I've been doing them in the corner, they will just hit the wall and fall within reach.*MFC Illuminati*

No negs please but.. I can't wrap my head around what I would truly do in an active shooter situation if it was just me (without my family) there.
A lot of people might die if I don't try to stop the threat.. but the fact I DIED a hero (if it happened) isn't going to raise my sons, or take care of my wife. Will be a good 2 minute story for them to tell people, and thats all she wrote. All I can hope is I never have to make this decision. I think right now with zero tactical training, I would be heading for the door.

I would say, act as if it is your families life in danger. Wouldn't you want someone to try and save your wife/daughter/son/brother/sister/mother/father?
This is why I think a good first gun is a Glock or M&P and some training, f*ck all those expensive pistols, save some money and buy yourself something that works and some training.

Of course I would want them to, and I am not saying I would or wouldnt. I don't think it is in my nature to run away like a pussy.. in fact thats the only fights I've been in my life were defending other people who were weaker or at a disadvantage.. but I have no idea how to handle the active shooter situation. Would be kinda stupid to just run in and get my face blown off.

its likely that list is only preliminary. it wouldnt surprise me at all if they tried to ban all semi automatic, removable mag fed rifles. hell, why would they stop there though? might as well ban all semi auto firearms completely... then comes the next revsion where they ban all firearms, even single shot ones.
lets just hope there is some kind of grandfathering available. cause it sure would suck if it was an all out ban, "give it up, thats an assault weapon, and you cant own that"Merica

I've seen a lot of crazy new 'innovations' in the gun world, but this one truly seems like a step in the right direction. BRB, untrained shooter taking out targets at 1000yds. Heard many long range shooters/snipers say something to the effect of "the rifle will do its job, as long as you do yours."
I was the sole creator/participant/loser of the 2nd one, so technically no one has come up with another one yet. We should do another one, it's always fun.
Personally I'm going with Will Brinks' suggestion for the fast drill he posted in the previous thread, will be doing it this weekend. Where is he anyways? Haven't seen him in here yet, I don't think.
Also, Farley. You asked about shot timers, did you pick one up? I just got a smart phone (an Android) and have been trying a couple of the free timer apps out. There is at least 1 paid app that I haven't tried, to the tune of about $30. Regardless, the IPSC timer is a free app and is excellent. It is adjustable, can be calibrated, features shot string recording (including splits), and can do delayed/random start beep. So far, so good. I had some false readings at first but after adjusting the settings for my particular phone mic and calibrating it I've had good readings.Do I even lift?
