    Deadlifting 5x5 or 5x1?

Currently on the Starr 5x5 right now, on Mondays I deadliest 5x5, after squatting 5x5. Been reading some stuff saying it makes more sense to do 5x1 for deads, any thoughts on this?

I'm 165lbs, on Monday I'll do a warmup of 135x5 once then 5x5 of 245. The last few sets towards the end, I can feel my form gets a little sloppy.

I think you mean 1X5 (one set of 5 reps).

This is usually recommended for beginner to intermediate because of the heavy workload deads put on the body and cns. And usually you are doing this in conjunction with squats so the overload really starts to pile up.
If I'm not mistaken, the deadlifts on the bill start 5X5 isn't a sets across but a ramp up. So it's basically the same as a 1X5. You use the first 4 to ramp up in weight to close your target weight. Then the last set you do all out for 5 reps.

oops, yeah, that's what I meant 1x5. I think I misread the Starr routine, because I was definitely not ramping up.

There are several version of his routine and I'm not sure of which one you are doing but I would recommend the ramp up for the deadlifts.

no...with Starr you ramp up to a top set of 1x5, so it's 4 warm ups and a working set.

Like what others have said...you're supposed to ramp up to a top set of 1x5.

However, I believe there are only a total of 4 sets though, 3 warm-up and 1 top set. See link here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Bill_Starr_5x5

Well, muscle growth, but I think as a noob, more power is more weight, which will be more muscle growth. Right?
