get the becker bk2 if you want a knife that thick. If you want one with that blade length and close to that price range look at the ontario rd7. mtech makes crappy knives.
Oh you could also try that schrade knife they have been selling on there, its quite inexpensive and its made of 1095. Probably more what you are going for... Schrade SCHF9. They have another similar knife but I'm not sure of the product number"I'm not like most girls." -most girls

Yep. Its pretty nice, first time I have ever held a 5 outside of about 15 seconds at the NRA show a few years back. Its pretty redundant with the 6 and I have a BK2 also which I like a little better and which I did a bunch of work on to get sharpened correctly so Im not sure I'll keep it.
I was waiting to see if he would relist the TKC 4 he was selling at a lower price but he corrected his spelling. boo.Last edited by jafomofo; 10-31-2012 at 01:27 PM.

A lot nicer but a lot less comfortable. The grind on my bk2 was uneven and not particularly sharp when I got it, so much so that I was going to send it back as a defect but I was assured thats not uncommon and just to run it through the sharpmaker a hundred times which would take care of it and it did for the most part. The sheath on the bk2 is nicer than people say, the handle is comfortable.
The 5 on the other hand is not all that comfortable in comparison but its a lot sturdier, the scales on the bk2 seem cheap and they don't rattle but they aren't fitted either. Its the same handle as the 6, you can contour them to improve it and they aren't uncomfortable but not as nice in the hand as the bk2. I guess that seems contradictory, the bk2 has more comfortable ergonomics at least for my hand but loses in every other way.
The blades are similar but the bk2 is shorter and wider with a different profile. If they were the same price I'd say probably take the 5 but the bk2 is 1/2 to 1/3 the price. They are both big heavy knives. I'd take the 6 over either of them."I'm not like most girls." -most girls

becker bk14 aka the eskabar. It's a collaborative project between becker and esee comprising the blade of the bk11 and the handle of the izula. Sells for about 30-35 dollars without the handles slabs which are another 12. Comes with a cheap but serviceable plastic sheath. That one has been stripped and a natural patina applied. They are great little knives.

Knife brahs, I need a dive knife and figure if I'm buying I don't want to by junk I may as well get something decent. I won't be diving, this is used for when I kayak while fishing, especially for sharks/shark baits as it's easy to get rolled and end up tangled in some heavy duty lines. Any recommendations?

Dad brother and i are advanced scuba certified. My dad had the Kershaw Amphibian. Its a sick knife. Idk if youre looking for a folding knife or a fixed blade but this one is a great one. Its double edged with partial serration on one side. ~$50 but you can do better if you shop around probably. Come witha kydex sheath and rubber straps for your leg

Not really sure what features would be desirable for a dive knife but in terms of blade profile, edge, fixed or flipper etc... but as far as the steels in general, spyderco uses H1 for their salt line with many models available and benchmade has a line using X15TN and some older models with H1. If I was getting one knowing what little I do I'd get this
Decent price, good seller. High visibility, partial serration, no legal issues.

That looks excellent, but I'm concerned with the pointy end. Seems most have a flat point so as to avoid stabbing yourself? Might be a legal issue here too, I seem to recall getting into some trouble when I was young for a novelty knife in my truck because it was double edged. That looks like a good knife though, and the sheath looks like it would do well attached to my life jacket when I'm in the yak.
Yeah I guess I should specify a few things.
1) Gotta be able to secure it to a life jacket or leg, so some sort of hard sheath is a must.
2) Gotta be able to resist rust due to lots of salt exposure.
3) Fixed blade is preferred. I don't want to have to mess with unfolding a knife if my body/arms/legs are tangled up in lines or something.
