muscle mass and fat. If you want to get as big as possible as fast as possible w/out repercussions from gaining a little fat, then pizza is a godsend. Most people here take the "clean bulk" approach though. but a little dirty mixed won't kill anyone. It will add a lot calories, very quickly. (plus it tastes so damn good

I remember visiting my friend at college last summer...all we did in the day time was a lot of physical activities like full-court basketball, weight lifting, and catch football. And all we did in the night time was kill dozens of slices of pizza. I was there for about two weeks and I remember coming back 10 pounds bulkier...with not much gut added...so I highly recommend it ONLY if you plan to workout.

The thing is, you might gain MORE muscle by eating less pizza and more whole foods, since the micronutrient profile (both of known and unknown nutrients) is likely superior with the whole foods.
Fanatical clean eating isn't necessary to build muscle. But cleanish eating sure can help, especially if your goal is minimal fat gain while bulking. It's so much easier to control caloric intake when consuming less-processed foods.Last edited by Analyst; 04-14-2006 at 06:44 AM.

By the way, sodium is good for you, and saturated fat consumption is correlated with testosterone production. Go figure. The key, of course, is moderation -- not that easy to do with a diet of mainly pizza, to be sureLast edited by Analyst; 04-14-2006 at 06:39 AM.

I say just don't go over board and make sure to keep your calories in check still. It's a lot easier to eat a couple slices of pizza than several cups of brown rice and a couple of chicken breasts. For me this is really true when bulking because I get full so easily. BBing.com is the home of the clean eating only crowd, so choose whatever you like better.

That and how many people here compete? I bet a lot of people here don't let bodybuilding run their life, just to keep in shape and look pretty good. I'm sure a lot of people are like me and go out and drink on the weekends and eat bad food every once in a while. Who cares? You are only going to live this life once. I am going to have a good time and during the week, keep my diet in pretty good check and workout, b/c I enjoy it. And I am going to eat my pizza and drink my beer.

Bodybuilding seems to have a lot of that: people do several things at once, or change several behaviors at once (e.g. totally clean eating and a better workout) and wrongly connect irrelevant behaviors with the results or lack of results. Then they trumpet those things to others, who (eager to gain muscle and/or lose fat) start repeating the actions themselves.
The bottom line in getting bigger/stronger is this: lift heavy and eat lots. Everything else is details.

But that's a little different than the "true believer" message you hear pretty often regarding bodybuilding nutrition: anyone who doesn't maintain the purest of clean diets is doomed to a life of muscular atrophy and endless fat gain.Last edited by Analyst; 04-14-2006 at 10:52 AM.
