Hell, I didn't even notice we were that close. I guess I'm nothing if not consistent. Well, I'm a little buzzed too
Thinking of dead people today- drinking some good ol' Pabst Blue Ribbon. Probably should get to bed too, though I don't think I'll sleep well tonight. Later y'all, I need another beer and a smoke."If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." -Thomas Paine

You guys ever tried powertec benches? I found one cheap but I'm not sure if it's a wobbly POS and don't want to waste my time if it is.

LOL, its a firefighters training tool to simulate forcible entry. I can understand the angle seems a bit odd but it trains your whole body to work explosivly. The aim is to get the sled from one side to the other as quickly as possible. It takes a lot of force to budge it and the deadblow hammer used to hit it with is 9lbs which feels nowhere near heavy enough, so you have to hit it damn hard. Bodybuilding application is minimal though.
Powertec benches are well built for the money IMO. I've never owned one but I've seen plenty of them over the years. I find the designs a bit complicated looking for my liking, but thats just my personal tastes. As far as funtionality goes they are strong and the upholstery looks good quality for a middle of the road bench.Last edited by ProtienandIron; 09-22-2012 at 03:59 AM.

In before the page 332 lock, b--ches!
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Great pic KBKB. Those filters make many of your pics look other wordly. If God had wanted us to be weak, He wouldn't have given us iron.

Thanks!
With regard to filters, I wasn't using any yesterday. (I do have a polarizing filter for that camera, but I haven't used it yet.)
The out-of-camera pic is fairly boring, so much so that I skipped over it on my first pass through the photos. It has a very dark foreground. This is due to shooting towards the sun, but can happen on bright sunny days even when you shoot away from the sun. In that photo and others that I've edited, I've noticed that the foreground often ends up looking unnaturally blue when I try to lighten it up. I spent some time last night making color adjustments to make the foreground look more realistic, but decided that I liked the blue version that I had posted here (earlier) better.
Below is another photo that I like. I took it last June during my vacation to Utah. Both this photo and the one posted earlier in this thread were tone mapped using the Mantiuk '06 operator. That's just one step, but an important one, used to create the final image.

I had a very similar bench, 45 dollars is a great deal. I'm now spoiled with my Power-Lift Bench but I didn't look for replacement bench while I had this one.
http://extremistpullup.com/homegym/past-equipment/
cost vs demand. do you demand a rock solid adjustible bench.
If you want a adjustible bench its a good deal. if you are looking for a soild stationary bench it you might have to pay more and get one new.
Doesn't Rogue Fitness have inexpensive one? I hear the plasic caps at the base can crack though, lol.

The only experience I've ever had with one of those sleds was in 1995 or so when I was applying for suburb Fire Department. The were one of the FD (and maybe the only one in the area) that used the "Firefighter's Challenge" for their physical entrance exam. I had about the same experience as you describe, but it wasn't too terribly hard. I assume that the sled can have the resistance changed though....maybe? As it was....I tried out for 4 different Fire Departments in the 90's and was hired by 3 of them....the one that used that sled is the only one that didn't! (I did ok though...about 19th out of 250 or so....they just hire very few people).
As far as the powertec bench....I've had one and didn't care much for it. It was an older model, so maybe the newer ones are better....but I couldn't help notice how mine looked and felt like a commercial bench....but failed entirely on making it as stable as a commercial bench. It was also amazingly complicated for a mid level bench, tbh. I even thought about keeping it for a db bench because it looked so nice...but it was so uncomfortable I just decided to get rid of it.
To Skid.... you have experience with commercial equipment....I really believe you're going to be disappointed with the powertec bench.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

No different resistance levels, although I have seen quite a few different models on youtube, some of which look homemade. Traditionally I think it used to be a large railway sleeper. I always assumed just about every FD in the states had one. I think I might have overdone it for my first session, I was just glad to be able to do it as it shows my shoulder is finally on the mend.
Guys, for $45 dollars do you really think the powertec is such a bad deal? Even if that price was in pounds I would buy that bench even though I have a commercial bench just to flip/keep as a spare if I had the space. It might not be commercial but its a lot of bench for $45 IMHO.Last edited by ProtienandIron; 09-22-2012 at 04:44 PM.

This was my take on it as well. It's not built any better than the BS benches I've tried, and the BS benches are just so much simpler and cleaner looking.
That said, we're only talking about $45. It may not be the greatest FID bench around, but it's definitely well worth $45. I've been eyeballing a Powerblock Sport Bench on my local CL for $60, and I don't think it's as nice as the Powertec...yet I'm still tempted to pick it up for DB work."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
