Yeah man it's always free usually at any uni.
Yeah so many of them come up to me/stare/cheer me on its a good conversation starter haha. I can already think of like probably 5 that would probably be down.
And tell me about it man, we have a NCAA sports complex and they have like 20 platforms with bumpers...but can students use them? Nope....
I can probably out snatch every ****jn football player on the team and can't use the bumpers. And the student gym won't buy bumpers because of the stigma of "dropping/throwing a weight" or something. I've probably been warned two or three times about dropping 250lbs after a cj.
DO THEY EVEN LIFT??!!

Best thing to do in that situation might be to buy a couple of bumper plates, say a pair of greens and a pair of yellows, and then keep those at the gym, and whenever lifting, just make up the rest of the weight in smaller gym plates that won't make contact with the floor.
More plates in contact with the floor=more noise. If you have, say, a single 45lb bumper plate, or a 25+10 bumper on each side, and then the rest of the weight is in small diameter hex 25, 35+change plates, it won't be nearly as loud.

There's no way that would fly in the school gym.
1) Who knows what would happen to those weights after 1 week of them being in that death star they call a gym. Idk who would be responsible for those either.
2) theres a big sign next to the towel check-out kiosks and front desk with a bunch of rules. Rule #1... you guessed it "Absolutely no Olympic Lifts"
brb 3 stories of fitness equipment, bball courts, indoor soccer pitch, volleyball courts, racquetball courts, indoor track, walk in/olympic pool, sauna, rock walls, tons of fitness classes and 70million dollars later... still no bumpers, no platform... at least it's better than planet fitness lmao
ok now im pissed for some reason lmfao.
brb gonna go lift heavy and take a multiThe Long Road to Competition... My olympic weightlifting journal:

I partially know that feel. Our school, while academically amazing, does not exactly have an enthusiastic commitment toward even basic necessities of an athletic facilitiy. However, the gym does have a platform and bumpers. But the gym staff are insistent that weights not be dropped on said platform. This defeats the purpose, of course. The weight room is small and everyone will hear a dropped Olympic lift. However, my workaround was easy. Know the hours. Know when the strict staff leave. Know when there are few patrons and the few staff that remain don't give a flying ****. On weekdays during the academic year the gym is open until midnight. If I go at 9 pm virtually all the staff are gone, there are maybe 6 people in the gym, two of whom are serious lifters who come at night for the same reason. LOL, we used to have to fight over the only Olympic bar until we finally got a second. I have never been bothered about dropping weight in the gym if I have walked in after 7:30 pm.
Regarding keeping equipment, I keep a pair of squat stands in the gym in the storage cupboard and they are just fine. A friend is a pro strongman who keeps a strongman log/axle, bands, chains, a cambered bar, a fat bar, farmers walk handles and a yoke in the same cupboard, and his huge ****ing stash of equipment is also fine. Nobody bothers with it.Last edited by jb4476; 09-17-2012 at 06:07 PM.

omg im gonna start a weightlifting club at my school and get access to the ncaa gym atleast once a week and become a hero among the crossfitters at my gym. I've figured it out! And since Im on the club sport executive board I have some pull with the club sports director which could help.
IVE FIGURED IT OUT GUISE!!! wish me luck when I talk to her tomorrow. She'll probably accept, and I'll get denied by the ncaa couterparts.....fudgeSnatch: 122

Had a sick day on powercleans. Gym was too busy (max capacity 115 had to line up to get in) to get vids but I was motivated.
Up to 108x1x3 powercleans from the floor PR
Then 90x1 muscle clean from high hang, 99x3 power clean high hang, both PRs
Did some 'clean pulls' aka deadlifts and I popped 150 to sternum height. Got up to 200 but it got no height besides me slowly shrugging at the top.Misc Strength Crew

I don't understand how the **** it's humanly possibly for Klokov to do this with 451 lb. That fuarking push press limits the **** out of the whole thing. I swear that man has fuking antigrav on.
