I'm a 17 year-old high school Senior who comes from a very well to do Native family. In addition, I'm a straight A student with almost perfect SAT scores, and got accepted into one of the top 20 universities in the US and generally consider myself to be an intelligent, hard working, motivated, cultured, assimilated, and contributing member of society.
It's an unfortunate reality that most other Native Americans do not share these same qualities.
The overwhelming majority of Native people make me sick - you're loud, obnoxious, uneducated, unsophisticated, refuse to learn English, promote violence and abuse, degrade women, are lazy, and uneducated.
What irritates me is that whites (the people I interact with, and will unfortuntately interact with for the rest of my life due to my future socioeconomic background) often believe these negative qualities to be a staple of all Native Americans, and ultimately are shocked that there are educated, articulate, and moneyed Native Americans.
People, most notably whites, are quite frankly astounded that a Native American can have such an extensive vocabulary as I, and while I can and do become angry at these individuals for being narrow minded, the reality is that these stereotypes are continually perpetuated by ignorant Native American fools.
You can't complain about discrimination, and being treated unfairly, and seen as inferior when it is you, who chooses to promote a culture, lifestyle, and general outlook on life which is in itself decisively inferior.
So when I'm on an online forum, writing and communicating when I do, and my ethnicity comes up, people actually question and do not believe I'm Native Americans - because the images they see of Native Americans are ones that are uneducated, Ebonic-speaking, and inarticulate.
The reality is that, while they may not say it, most whites will assume Native Americans are intellectually until proven otherwise.
Native Americans overwhelmingly are an embarrassment to society and continue to be the thorn in America's proverbial "crown". You're responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime (both violent and petty), drugs, and out of wedlock births. Everything has consequences, and in the case of the Native American community, that means a continuation of poverty, exploitation, and brought on inferiority.
Native Americans people make me sick and I'm embarrassed to even utter the words, "I'm a Native". There's no pride there - there's not a mainstream positive image to represent Native Americans .
You can attack me, call me names, and tell me how white washed I am, but the reality is, you know everything I write is true.
Thoughts? Any suggestions?

Wow, I'm impressed.
I work at a grocery store, and we have a lot of Native Americans go through, and they fit your description.
I try to be unbiased, but it seems like almost every Native American I see acts the way you said. And EVERY single Native American is on food stamps. I'd put money on the fact that 99% of them that have came through have food stamps.
But people probably won't treat you like **** as they get to know you. Good luck broRAW lifts

My college is located on tribal grounds, lots of natives there, casino down the road. Yes I see natives that cause a problem, go to jail, rob people, but white, black, Asian, everyone does that ****. Its all about the person not their race, religion or ethnicity. You probably just live in an area populated with a bunch of natives, there are bound to be some ****ty people in the group.

The statistical evidence you speak of also includes those that defy the trend. Phase is speaking in terms of potential, and everyone can potentially overcome the cultural downfalls of their race. Of course this isn't the case and that is where the statistical evidence comes from. Phase was not incorrect in his statement, though.

Sad
Supergoat 777 your statements are absolutely absurd. You must have no connection with your culture at all and probably no friends as well. It's also probably safe to say that your parents went to a boarding school off the reservation or were placed in some 'Foster Care' program, and completely turned their backs on their families afterwards. This is just a case of misdirected hate; hate yourself, hate the people who destroyed your culture, hate your parents for not instilling in you the ability to be open, accepting and tolerant. For those of you that agree with this idiot's statements I am truly sorry, it just showcases your ignorance and inherent hateful nature and I pity those who are forced to interact with you ever at any point in your lives. For those of you who chose to not propogate hate, thank you, your lives will surely be fulfilling and happy. Do some research people, don't make statements without considering all of the facts. Only some tribes give dividends to their members, only some tribes have practically free schooling (many tribes only reward scholarships based on academic performance and merit), as well, visit a reservation and observe the aftermath of attempted genocide (which will ripple through countless families and generations in the form of alcoholism, abuse, etc.). Further, it is exceedingly difficult to scrape together a living on wastelands that former invaders decided to discard. To those of you who claim that affirmative action took away your opportunity to get an education, grow a pair and get to work. There are resources everywhere, you have institutionalized racism on your side so it'll be pretty difficult for you to lose.
Oh yeah, and this is coming from a Native American man who has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, speaks 4 languages, works two jobs, AND can stil find timel bench 335 lb and squat 455 lb.

Disappointed....
I am Navajo, full blooded. I must say I am very disappointed at your view of your own people. Yes, it is unfortunate to see our people swim in their negativity, however, who are we to judge. We do not know their struggles, nor do we not know that they very well might be trying to make a change for the better.
Our people have indeed lost their way, however, for those who haven't or have redound the way, it is our duty to honor our ancestors way. In Navajo, we call this, "walk in beauty." This philosophy is very simple, to walk in beauty is to respect yourself and all that is around you, for you are the universe and the universe is you. Respect and love all things.
With this mindset, I have a healthy mind, thus, it transcends into my body. Don't "hate" on who you are, you can try to change yourself and hope you can be influence to those around you.

Let me tell you something, you may sit and think that you are superior to everybody but you didn't choose your race. You have one of two options; completely turn your back on you heritage and just shut the **** up. You can't compare yourself to the stereotypes that are out there about the majority of Native Americans. Or two actually learn why the Native Americans are like this. I have no Idea what tribe you are from nor do I care, but I am Hunkpahpa Lahkota. If you have been on the reservation than you would see a beat-down and broken people. My unci(grandmother) used to get beat in her boarding school for speaking her own language. Native Americans were forced onto reservations from there sacred stomping grounds where they would hunt, and live mostly peacefully. I am Half-white and Half Native American I was beat up as a child for being native by white people and by natives for being white. I have always been in the middle observing if you are native American you have to walk two worlds if you forget about your heritage and traditions you are not native. If you do not succeed in the "white world" you are a peace of **** as you have stated. But we natives are as we are because The Native Americans that are going to make something of themselves turn their back on their oyate(people) if you want to see a change and want to see the stereotypes wash away you have to change them and you need to be an example a role model for your people so they know that they can be something other than trash

Have some self pride OP, surely you do realise that most native peoples are discriminated against in their own land look at Australia, Palestine, America, etc. Most socio-economic problems are rarely ever that simple, use the education you claim to have and actually look at the problems they face which cause them to act how they do. Even better, use the status you have to fight for your respect as a people. Hate to break it to you OP but chances are you and your family have a lot more in common with these people than you think.
