    Help Losing Fat

Hey I am 6ft, 250, 23 and very out of shape. Ive been working out and keeping track of calories now for a month and a half and it just seems like I haven't gone anywhere. I am currently eating about 2000 cal a day hitting the 1g protein for every 1lb body weight, eating very healthy hitting almost all the macros i need daily, but been over on sodium. I take a multivitamin, fish oil, and protein powder daily. At first I weight about 247 then after a few weeks went up to 256 and now have dropped back down to 250 again. Ive been doing cardio 3-4 times a week and lifting 3 times a week too after being very sedimentary for several years. I just feel confused that im higher weight now then when I started and dont see too much of a change in body comp either, especially stomach. Anything I am missing or anyone that can shead any light on why this might be happening???

read the stickies. count your calories properly. if you have been consistently working out it would seem that you are underestimating the calories you are taking in.

calorie deficit is key, if you are gaining weight rather than losing weight than it is more than likely that you are not counting correctly.

the only thing i recommend doing is reducing your current caloric intake by 500 and see what that does for you. weight loss is not magic, if you were correctly counting and have figured out your body's bmr then you should be losing weight. if you have however gained weight, it would mean that you are somehow eating towards a caloric surplus.

How long have you been cutting? Don't expect to see results overnight. It's a lifestyle change, not a '6 week fix'

Measure yourself. You could be gaining muscle and losing fat therefore weight is an inaccurate measurement to judge your progress.

    How are your clothes fitting?

For the full 6 weeks ive been cutting, and no i don't expect to see results overnight however I do expect scales to go down, not up over a 6 week period. I know its a lifestyle change its been a big one for me too from how I was before, and I intend to keep learning and advancing as I go.

I would not advocate this, dropping to 1500 calories is not the answer.

You body doesn't always follow these rules, I've been eating at a 1300 deficit and in the past 3 days i've gained 3 Lbs (water weight), I usually gain 4lbs then drop 7lbs towards the end of the week.

As long as you eat in a deficit you should notice weight loss every week or so, don't weigh daily because of water & bowel movements, do what your doing for another 3 weeks and if there are no improvements you'll need to reassess your calories, exercise etc. and adjust.

I understand water weight and expect it, but also thought it just might be muscle mass but just don't feel like Ive made any gains that would be that big. I know im naturally a lazy person and been actively trying to get up, out and do more, but that does take time.

OP it is sedentary not sedimentary, don't feel bad I've made the same mistake before being informed.

I'm running a caloric intake of 1600 and while I feel this isn't the best rate of weight loss it does keep me motivated to see weekly progress (2lbs/wk)
    Transformation: 288Lbs [≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡---------------------] 10%, Currently down 55LBs since February. Goal ~ 200Lbs
Sometimes I accidentally give reps when I meant to give negs.

I understand that feeling, I only joined a Gym 3 weeks ago but my weight loss has slowed since I started lifting and doing 50 mins of cardio a day but I have a feeling its because of dehydration since I was drinking 2 litres and probably sweating out half of it in the gym, just uped to 3.5 litres and feeling much better.

You'll get there OP, also don't rely so much on the scale, have you taken some measurements? (Chest, stomach, hips, bum) my weight hasn't changed that much but I've lost about 2" in alot of places.

Mate, you need to go back to the numbers, if you are not losing over this period, then your math is wrong, there is never any other answer. A guy your size that is really and truly eating 2000 calories would be losing fat.

sorry I should have been clearer but I felt he is inaccurately measuring his calories and is most likely consuming above his maintenance, therefore should have dropped calories. if however he is doing it right and still gaining weight than I have no other suggestions.
