I typically eat a low cal breakfast like 2 eggs a slice of toast, followed by a high volume low calorie lunch like a grilled chicken salad (no cheese, no croutons, light dressing). This leaves my dinners open to eat whatever I want as long as I keep an eye on the size of the portion. This way Im not starving during the day, and I get my satiety at night without going overboard.

not sure; but i avoid complex carbs (white rice, starch and sugar) like the plague.

Yes, they do.
You can eat carbs and get away with losing weight if you're eating good fats and protein, but a high carb diet is not good for you and will make you fat. Whether it's wheat or white, processed, etc. it doesn't really matter if you'r eating too much of them. That and even if you're losing weight someone while eating a good amount of carbs per day, your body isn't necessarily in good health. Losing weight on the scale =! being healthy.
The thread title is about getting lean, not just losing "weight" on a scale. If I were you, I'd be aiming for under 100g of carbs per day, and try to make most of those carbs from vegetables, etc.

No rationalizing going on at all, simply facts. If you are within a calorie deficit, you will lose weight.
No one has said eating 3 whoppers a day is ideal for fat loss, muscle retention, muscle growth, or general health. No one has said it's a good idea, we are simply stating the absolute fact that a calorie deficit will result in weight loss in an otherwise healthy individual.
The average person in training is not going to ever enter a BB or PL contest, they are never going to cut down to contest low body fat, they are never going to see their absolute maximum muscle or strength potential. The average person, hitting the gym 3-4 days a week just wants to be better than what they are now. The need for highly complex diets or workout systems doesn't develop until you get to the extreme upper end of these sports, trying to get the last couple of percentage points out of their potential. The average violinist, even the average violinist in a symphony does not need, and will not benefit from a Stradivarius.
A basic workout, something like All Pros, or Starting Strength and a basic understanding of dietary macros and IIFYM will take the average person far further than their expectations if they stick with it. The real selling points are that it is simple to understand, easy to follow and if followed correctly will get results. Most folks are not and will never push the outer edges of their potential, and most folks have no desire to make the sacrifices to push their potential that hard. Most folks want to have a piece of freaking cake or a slice of pizza or a beer once in a while, a simple workout and IIFYM will let them do that and still be stronger and look better than the vast majority people. Now cutting: Got a little more squishy than I wanted, heading down to 160lbs and seeing how things look.

I was on the run today and ate the following----
Footlong BBQ Chicken sub from subway (~900 calories ~60grams of protein)
Carton of muscle milk (~300 calories ~34 grams of protein
2 FFGY (~300 calories ~30 grams of protein)
1 20 oz mountain Dew (~300 galories)
1 Butterfinger (300 Calories)
1 100 Grand Bar (200) calories.
6oz of Oscar Meyer Processed Ham (~150 Calories ~25 g of protein)
Now, I had next to no fat (aside from the cheese in the sandwich and whatever was in the muscle milk) but it's just one day and would consider today a "win" as far as dieting is concerened. Will probably eat some plain broccoli with lemon juice if (when) I get hungry later.Don't Drink, Don't Smoke, Watdo you do?
