You aren't really banking off the insurance company since they get more money from the other person than they give you. Them taking $1000 from the lady and giving me $500 is not banking off the insurance companies. That's why I told her she could just give me money without telling her insurance company, but she didn't want to do it.
Nope. This country is an "axis of evil", it use to be a pretty big empire, and a lot of **** is going down with them as of late. It is on the continent of Asia but the majority of its people would probably be considered Caucasian.1372 @ 205

I feel like the understanding of car insurance is minimal in this thread.

I think Arian is saying it would have been cheaper for the lady to just pay out of pocket then to go through her insurance company since she was at fault.
Arian you would love California specifically southern Orange County. There are a ton of Persian people here and half my chemistry class is Persian.Total's = Jan. 2012 - 1036 @ 198's

Heh, aren't your full/part asian?
By saying you "banked" off the insurance company, you make it sound like you screwed them over and they lost money.
Teach me then.
Teach us then.
I know. I've been to San Francisco and Los Angeles several times. I applied to USC for undergrad as well but didn't get in.1372 @ 205

But I didn't really make money off them because it was money I was owed. If anything, I lost money because the money they gave me is not equal to the value that my car dropped from getting into an accident. When I went to get quotes they said an aftermarket bumper would not work on a new Civic and quoted me for a factory one or whatever you call it. But then when the lady's insurance guy came, he said that they were bsing me and that an aftermarket bumper is fine and gave me like $100-$200 less than those original quotes. So, most likely, I got like $500 for $700 worth of damage to my car if I don't change the bumper. And if I do change the bumper, the color won't match exactly and people will be able to notice and thus the value of the car will be lower than had that lady not crashed into me. But the thought of getting $500 for "nothing" just gives people the illusion that they "made" money off their car insurance company.

her company sucks/ you should've raised hell with insurance adjuster / you should've checked with another shop.
dunno if the laws vary from state to state, but anytime I've been in an accident, the claims adjuster looked at my car, wrote me a check, then I was free to do what I needed to do. I could pocket the money, find a shop to do the work for less, or take it to a good shop, and if it was going to be over the amount the insurance company quoted, they had to deal with the insurance company and negotiate the price.
is it not like there in other states?

I've never dated a Persian woman before. But by going through my family, I would have to agree. My mom is pretty crazy and materialistic. I have cousin who went to Iran and came back with a nose job and boob job and thought nobody would notice. The men are a bit more normal. My dad works his a$$ off every day and makes a ton of money and then chooses not to spend it. He's never been back to Iran since he left 20+ years ago and I can't remember the last time he's been on vacation or done something fun for himself.

tl;dr
I banked off of them because I bought a car for 500 dollars from a friend, got in an accident months later in the car. I was quoted 1800 dollars to fix it and received a check in the mail. It was actually only going to cost 500 dollars to fix the dent and headlight on the car, but I didnt fix it. Sold the car DAMAGED to carmax for 1600 dollars. LULZ
That chunk of change gained went as a down payment for the next car.
