The glory of having an incredible physique is short lived. And when it's over it's dead, just another ghost.
Coleman was the immaculate KING, and now nobody wants to look at him.
The champs of yesterday all looked phenomenal, but have long since been shriveled up and degenerated.
No champ that turned heads yesterday has anything to show today. And no champ that shines today shall have greatness to display tomorrow.
So, let us enjoy the transient glories as they come and go, and enjoy our own personal goals and development, but let us also brace ourselves in wisdom, knowing that what we have today we shall not have tomorrow, and so enjoy this sport, but not bind ourselves and out hearts to them foolishly - but in playfulness and with the understanding that if you start feeling wretched because you're not where you want to be, know that wherever you'll get to you'll have to depart anyway.
so breathe easy, pump the weights, but don't forget the truth. Look out for yourself.
I don't know why I wrote this. I think about it a lot since I started lifting. Sometimes I find myself thinking about my progress and catch myself getting caught up in tripping out about it and losing energy, and then I remember the futility of it all in the first place.
Lift, enjoy, but don't make it a lifeline.
I am reminded of the picture I saw of Lee Prest doing a FDB after tearing his biceps. You could see his self-esteem down the drain in his forced smile. To have one's heart binded to circumstances that are ultimately outside of our control will ultimately lead to a comedown. Whether it's today, tomorrow, 5 or 15 years from now, the comedown is coming, and when it does, we'll be left all alone.
May Phil Heath reign supreme for all eternity. Amen.
Neg me if you want.

I don't mind. Even looking good for a while is better than nothing.
We're dodging more ninjitsu attacks than Flex Wheeler. We're ducking more bullets than George Farah. We're facing more death than a kid leg pressing at Branch Warren's gym.
You can't stop us. You can't hold us back.

Larry Scott, aesthetic at 64
Dave Draper looking old as **** and still beast
Serge at 66
Zane at 64
Sure, injuries and age take their toll, plus I'm sure the added drug use nowadays doesn't help, but it's possible to still look awesome as you get older. No matter what you do you're eventually gonna look old, but these guys in their 60's looked better and fitter than the majority of people in their 20's.

you could say the same for everything. larry bird isn't an nba player anymore.. but he became a legend. like wheeler did
I agree tho, it sucks that some of the best physiques could last as little as one year, and then are gone after a car accident.Full Blown Baby

well, it's simply the way things are. the thread was to make a point to reflect on what our relationship to that fact is.
someone posted pics of zane and the others.. they all do look great. good for them. RIP Serge. The point of the thread was not to negate the benefits of an active lifestyle, but maybe to get those who haven't really understood the inevitability of their decay and are butt-hurt because they didn't get a protein shake within 15 mins of a workout."A man becomes what he thinks about."

I liked the post, it is very true, and seems more true of modern bodybuilding, RC is a good example, as they saying goes the biggger they get the harder they fall. In fact anything we think we own in life we are really only renting, my jutitsu instructor once kicked over my water bottle and said its all an illusion, you can not take it with you - even our forum IDS are only temporay that is unless we find someone else to carry the flag of our many posts before we die.

''There’s this battle over waterboarding at places like Guantanamo Bay. I think that they should just say, “Hey, if you guys don’t talk, you have to see Hercules In New York.” I guarantee those guys would talk much faster. here's the thing.
when you die, no one will remember you.
even after Ronnie dies, bodybuilding fans 100 years from now will remember Ronnie Coleman as one of the greatest and biggest bodybuilders in the history of the sport. He has made history. I think that's worth itForum Representative

Most pros retire in there 40s, and guess what? they look better then 99% of the people there age.
This is such a ****ing dumb thread. Obviously they are going to look smaller then in there prime, but really, who cares? Big ron is still a beast at his age. Most 40 year olds are fat and have never seen a gym in their life before
Here's levrone back in 2009 in his late 40s 6 or so years after he retired. Still a ****ing beast
