    Dear Mommy

You're becoming obsessed with what I have to say. Remember, I'm only here to help. Feel free to ask me anything that you need a wise opinion on.

If I want a wise opinion from a man, I'll ask a real one, not some wanker who gets a hardon from hanging out with people he professes to dislike.

Thanks for the offer, though. Really.

I'm in a weird middle spot. I am very girly for the most part, I don't camp, I love pedicures, manicures, I do my hair everyday, same with make up, don't really do bugs, frogs, or other amphibians. But I am the lawn care woman, I mow, weedwack, edge, and plant all the flowers. I shovel the drive, I clean my car and don't mind getting sweaty and dirty. I love football and NASCAR, and heaven help to poor soul who happens to interrupt when the Steelers are on TV. Oh yes and I too, can only drink beer out of a bottle and love to shoot Crown, and Cabo

I have problems now that I have a toddler, I cannot relate to some of these other moms I meet. They're evil I tell ya, pure evil. They never ever spend a moment away from their children, and I once got told my Dale Jr shirt was "inappropriate" to wear at mommy and me because it had the word "Budweiser" on it They are 2, they cannot read yet. I guess I am just a high maintenance hillbilly

Mommy, that's really cool. Unlike many people, your daughter will probably grow up without an unhealthy fear of spiders because you exposed her to the "nature" aspect of their exsistance. My mom did the same thing with a praying mantis that got into our house when I was little. She let him stay and for some reason he lived up on the ceiling for almost a week. I remember being mesmirized watching him eat bugs. I thought it was the coolest thing!

That would be very cool to watch. We don't get any praying mantis by us. I'm kind of a nature geek I guess.

No wonder why I like it in this forum. There's a group of women here that I can actually relate to... and can respect.

The reason why I can't stand most women is because most play a victim in their own world, refusing to accept responsibility for their actions and inactions that make or allow things happen... or not happen, in their lives. Then of course, there are the back-stabbing bitches that we all hate... and worse, are the judgemental ones who have such terrible self-esteem that they have to put everyone and everything down around them... just to feel better about themselves. Then come the manipulative ones... that we've all experienced too....doing, saying anything to make people do things or buy things for them. Grrr. It sucks that there are so many out there that are like this. I think they'de all be happier if they snapped out of it.

    I'd have to consider myself a girly-tomboy....

Growing up, it was normal for me to work on my own cars for basic maintenance stuff like tuneups, oil changes, brakes, etc..., but once I moved to CA, where most men can't even change their own oil, I got a bit girlier about some things. I don't even wash my own car anymore... but that might be because most of the residential areas are apartments/condos without a driveway and a hose.

I've always had mostly male friends... and enjoyed male dominated hobbies. I used to build forts in the woods and play with my Tonka trucks. I never had any interest in dolls, although I did play school with my stuffed animals. I was SUCH a nerd.

I never got into watching team sports, but I have been into bodybuilding since 1991, motorcycles since 2002, and got certified and volunteered as an EMT and a Firefighter for 3 years back in NY.... all boyz stuff, around mostly boyz. My first real job in CA was in a male dominated field too.... business telecommunications. ... and I've got several guns.

I don't mind getting dirty, but I have to admit... I can't stand dirt under my nails or in my hair. I love fishing, but I don't like to bait my own hook. (depends on the bait) I don't mind lizards or snakes, but I'm disgusted or scared of most bugs...especially spiders.

    Beauty stuff...
As for hair/makeup... if it wasn't for my boyfriend and other social situations that require a certain level of fixing-up above 'natural,' I would wear my hair up and go without make up almost every day. Nails?? I don't like my fingernails painted, because they never last more then a couple days before they look terrible. Pedicures?? I love them. I used to get them regularly, but I had to make a few budget cuts.

I have to admit... I think I was much more independant when I was younger. I was proud to show you that I could do everything myself. I've learned to enjoy letting other people do things for me, if they offer. I know I enjoy helping others, so why should I refuse assistance if they want to help me. Sometimes, they can teach you better/faster ways of accomplishing the same outcome, if you give them a chance to teach you. I think that was the "I learned that I don't know everything" lesson.... and that if I watch, listen & learn, I can grow even more.

I think I'm going off topic now, and I've already written a book. It's just nice to know that there are so many women out there who I can relate to. I've noticed it with some female bodybuilding women, as well as with some women who ride motorcycles. It seems to me that basically, women who are in/around male-dominated things, seem to evolve to a much higher level.

Now why can't the men who we hang out with evolve into mature adults??? They seem to want to stay 19 forever... until they're forced to grow up. LOL

Son of a biscuit eater. I repped that idiot, Boyer with .. good points, when I meant to do it with negative. >

Just posting that I too can relate to everyone. I think that is also another reason we all come here, and stay. in our personal lives it's very hard to find someone who lives the lifestyle we do, and has the same interests. I for one am just not a social person. However, I don't like being social because past experience has taught me being social, mainly with women just causes unwanted drama. So I've basically cut out all women from my life with the exceptions of my family. Hell, even calling my mother or my aunt I get an ear full of drama and gossip that I don't eve care to know. It's enough to cover having at least 15+ women friends. My aunt is a very social person and loves having women friends and always has these girl night out things.. ect. I always decline, because I would just be miserable because I have nothing what-so-ever in common with anyone that would be. I really have nothing in common with my aunt either.

I have to friends in the neighborhood I live in because it's a military base and to me .. thsoe are the worst for gossip crap. Just like a small town. Plus, I already know I have nothing in common with anyone here. And if I do have one thing in common, then I usually have 30 other things that don't fit. No worries though, soon I will be leaving this place.

Reading through some of these posts was like reading about myself.

I like to think that I'm a healthy mix.. Like I'm a girly girl, I enjoy doing the stereotypical girly thangs but at the same time, I have many 'male traits'. I blame that on my growing up around males. But I love that about me. I feel as though I can like things that only guys are meant to like while still maintaining my feminity..
And as for friends, I have a balanced ratio of male and female friends.. There are times I prefer to hang around guys and there are other times I like to hang around women (eg. especially when the topic of conversation are 'girly'). I generally tend to adept well in any situation.

Anytime.... here's a few pics of me and my bikes. I don't have one anymore, but I borrow my boyfriend's when I want to play. I'll get another one soon.

    1) I'm on the right with my Busa
    2) That's my first bike... a CBR 900rr
    3) This was my 4th bike... the CBR954rr
    4) An autograph "must have"... if you're into racing.

... I can't seem to find any pics of me with my old silver CBR954.

BTW... if you're into motorcycle racing, you'll hate me for pic #4... that's Rossi's signature across my chest. I'm usually on the all the AMA grids, and got a chance to sneak into the Moto GP pit at Laguna last year for a little while.

sorry to run off topic... i love bumping into other chickies that ride.

    I'd have to consider myself a girly-tomboy....

I've always had mostly male friends... and enjoyed male dominated hobbies. I used to build forts in the woods and play with my Tonka trucks. I never had any interest in dolls, although I did play school with my stuffed animals. I was SUCH a nerd.

I never got into watching team sports......
    and I've got several guns.

I don't mind getting dirty, but I have to admit... I can't stand dirt under my nails or in my hair. I love fishing, but I don't like to bait my own hook. (depends on the bait) I don't mind lizards or snakes......

    Beauty stuff...
As for hair/makeup... if it wasn't for my boyfriend and other social situations that require a certain level of fixing-up above 'natural,' I would wear my hair up and go without make up almost every day. Nails?? I don't like my fingernails painted, because they never last more then a couple days before they look terrible. ......
I guess that puts me there too.

Being a military brat (Navy) and moving around so much, it was hard to make friends easy. Whether on base or in school. However, as I liked reading comics and playing more "boy stuff" ("cowboys and Indians", "Knights in armour" "War") it was easier to get along with the boys and be friends. Did not play much with dolls either. When I was five, my grandmother sent my parents money to buy me a doll for my birthday. I wanted a puppy instead and found a six month old part boxer in a local pound. After 16 years, Bambi (a part boxer) finally died of old age in 1970....loved that old dog.

When my sister played with Barbie Dolls, I had GI Joes (original 12"), "Marx's "Silver Knight" with all the different armour/weapons and "Capt Action". There were alot more "boy" oriented toys back in the late 50s and 60s. Did alot of reading but most of it was science/science fiction. History, archeology, historical fiction and the like rather than romance or mystery novels. Preferred "cowboy/detective/Robin Hood" TV shows to "Dobie Gillis". Liked the action/adventure films that came out then than frilly stuff. But then my first remembered films were "Land of the Pharoahs" and "Forbidden Planet" when they first came out and these help mold my later viewing/reading.

Team sports did not draw me that much although I did enjoy watching football with my dad. The Olympics was more interesting though. Although I was interested in guns and other weaponry as part of my general history interest. My dad never took me shooting and I never asked him although I would watch him clean his shotgun before he would go pheasant hunting. It was my husband who taught me how to shoot using black powder Civil War muskets and revolvers, first. As he handforges edged weaponry (swords, daggers et.c.) for a living (been doing this for 50 years now), I learned aspects of that and help decorate them.

My dad was not much of a mechanic and did not work on his own. In high school back in 1968, there was one girl who dared to break the "all boys" Auto Shop and was teased unmercilessly for it. By both girls and boys. Just some things were just not "done" still back then. My mother knew some basics, though, having learned this from male friends from "her days" in high school in the 40s. Most of what I know came from my husband who did work on his own cars/trucks and helped him. Also from his late father, who was a mechanic. They both felt a woman should know the basics and more. That's fine....dont mind at all and the knowledge has come in handy. Never could stand the "Oh, I just broke a fingernail" type of woman.

I am not much for "dressing up" but will on special occasions will ....outside of the SCA or other Living History group we have belonged to.

Talking about male dominated professions. My mother is a retired Aerospace Engineer. Started out in the early 60s at Rohr Aerospace, as a secretary and took whatever night classes she could to become one. Most of the time she was the ONLY woman in those classes. Worked on some of the Gemini and early Apollo programs as well as other NASA and other more commerical ventures.

Laurie.... You just reminded me of all the TV programs I grew up on too. Maybe that helped keep me from being one of the clueless society of women. I was from a different generation though, so I grew up on A-Team, Knight Rider, Quantum Leap, McGyver, Dukes of Hazzard..... and all the fun toys too. I just remembered about all the transformers and gobots I used to have.

We're alot alike... even with the moving aspect. I was in my 21st home by the time I was 18, so making/keeping friends wasn't the easiest thing for me either. Boys were always more accepting and had funner toys to play with. I hated Barbie, and would just pull her head off.

It looks like you had a strong female rolemodel with your mom being in aerospace. I think one big problem with women is that many are still taught what they "should and shouldn't do" based on nothing more then sex. If you're taught to be the housewife that listens to her husband like a drone.... then it's hard to become anything else, unless something or somebody helps open your eyes to the rest of the world that doesn't exist in that mindset. I know that doesn't happen as much these days... but it still seems to me that alot of women are just being raised to be a wife, and mother, and give up all their dreams while their husband goes out to play, after bringing home the dough. I don't believe in this $hit.

Damn... I think I took this way too topic now. This is somthing I'm kinda passionate about. I really wish we could "unplug" some of the women-drones from the Matrix and free their minds from all that BS.

Well, true my mother was a role model of sorts.

She wanted to become either a Disney Artist (was very accomplished in various mediums) back in the 40s or become an Industrial Engineer like her father (worked for Ford...started from the factory floor and worked his way up. He died in 1951) Growing up in the 30s and 40s....especially in the South, a woman was expected to act a and perform in certain roles. Although the WW2 years openned some doors for women to work in "men's jobs". But afterwards, they were expected to return to traditional roles. She wanted to go to college but conditions worsened at home when her father became sick, so was not able to. I think my mother saw marriage a way to get away from the stifling role she would have been cosetted into. She encouraged reading all kinds of history, science and more. She read Wierd Tales and Analog and took me to watch "This Island Earth", "Ivanhoe", "The Vikings", and all those great Hollywood SciFi/Historical spectaculars. As I grew older, became something of a film buff watching the old 30s/40s films on TV. Loved the old horror ones too (Forry Ackerman "Famous Monsters of Filmland") Believe me, the girls I knew back then....just did not go "into" that kind of stuff.

When Star Trek came out, mom, my sister and I would watch it on Thursdays. My mother commented she knew some engineers like Scotty. Yeah, there is something good about being a Nerd and having your mind "free". Although I had my share of being teased in high school because of it at first until I hit my Senior year. But looking back, you realize how shallow they were.

It took awhile though as we moved around so often until my dad was sent to San Diego to North Island in 1962. She only had a high school diploma but having that from the 40s is like having a college degree now...almost. So going to night college classes is how she got around that. Rohr, at least, recognized her efforts but for a while, she was used to train younger male college grads who were then promoted over her. Because she did not not have that college "sheepskin". Eventually, she did get the pay, the title of "Engineer" and was finally on more equal footing.

My husband lived a similar bohemian life, as his mechanic father would only stay in one place for awhile and then move on. Being an only child, this left him to use his own imagination alot. His mother would carve wooden toys and painted as well. As I mentioned, she was a tomboy while a girl and learned to carpenter from her father, who was also a very talented with many things. So, she learned to do/make things considered "boy's". Her mother tried to keep her in the kitchen but she preferred to sneak out to be with her father instead.

My husband grew up in the 40s with all the usual boy stuff but was never one to play "sports". His parents would take him to movies and he would later play out being pirate, robin hood or King Arthur at home. Finally he saw 1954 "The Black Knight" with Alan Ladd about a blacksmith who made his own armour and sword. That was his inspiration and living in a rural farm area, knew something about smithing. His mother found the 1890s "Campfires and Battlefields" about the Civil War and he read it throughly many times although his dyslexia made reading a chore sometimes (letters would switch around) Even started up an early Civil War reenactment group with his friends (he made cannon at the time too.) Later he joined the Arizona branch of the SCA in 1968 and started coming to similar events in San Diego with his swords/daggers.

So, I found his work fascinating...of course. I first met him in 1971, when he asked for SCA volunteers to help work on his stone house for a dagger or a sword. He lived on a Gold Placer Claim with his parents nearby then. His mother was ill at the time, and asked if any women would help out. I came out with some male friends but his mother had recovered by then. So I helped gather boulders and slap cement. Fun! No, really! One of the guys asked my husband if he would ever marry and his reply was if a woman was willing to live here.

"I would" I chirrped...not sure if I really meant it or not. Anyway, he took it to heart,. Began courting me after I went back to San Diego and though my interests were just fine. My mother's place was used for SCA "Revels" and for "crash space" on tournament weekends.

So.....we got married in 1972. It will be 34 years this May. Both of our kids grew up with all this "history stuff" and have similar interests as we do. Both are talented artists (daughter) or writers (son). My daughter is more fashion conscious...had more girlfriends too....than I ever had. But I think part of this is growing up with the same group of kids all through school and living in a very small community. Moving around so much puts a toll on you emotionally and socially when growing up. But "what does not kill you makes you stronger" does have it's merits.

By the way, my mother had a copy of the book "The Vikings" the 1959 movie was based on and read it. The author, Edison Marshal, did know his historical "stuff" and his Welsh princess "Rowenna" was not above working with her hands. Including rowing that small Viking boat. She would have thrown Janet Leigh's "Rowenna" over the gunwale for the 50s dialogue of not "knowing how to row" or that "her bodice was too tight".

That Rossi sig... yeah, I'm jealous. I'm totally into racing. In fact, I will be racing this season in the women's class. It's such a great way to have fun and go broke at the same time.

I think we've officially hijacked this thread with MC racing. **oops**

With Rossi...I've never seen so much paperazzi before. It took me 3-4 tries in the pit with hundreds of people waiting for a glimpse of him... and I finally had to borrow a hot grid pass to get close enough to him for an autograph. My boyfriend walked right into his pit, (as if he belonged there, LOL), and got to take part in a semi-private photoshoot of Rossi's umbrella girls. Lemme know if you want pics. Just PM me your email, so I don't have to go too nuts on this post.

I'm not a autograph person... with with MotoGP at Laguna last year, I had to collect a few. I see the AMA guys all the time... but GP is a totally different animal. I got a bunch... and pics with a few GP guys too. My BF has a pic with his arm around Rossi, while walking him back to his pit off the grid.

If you go to Laguna next year, lemme know.

Sometimes I feel like I do. I'm a girly girl... but I'm a HUGE NBA Basketball fan. There's not alot of us, but I'm just so freakin in love with the sport. My fiance doesn't even like sports so it's weird for us.

Ha, you sound like me, I am a programmer, worked as a security guard, did firearms training, enjoy lockpicking, am into gadgets and IT in general, I like big cars, I am self employed with several business ventures, I travel alone, I live in different countries all the time to see what they are like, I lived alone since I am 17, and I can't make friends with women cause usually they bore me, but by now men bore me just as much. I am a tomboy, I never learned how to use make-up properly and I am just starting to try and dress in a more feminine way. Things like that, yeah
