Hi,
I'm on a strictly ketogenic (<20g carbs) diet since last week and I've already lost about 11 pounds. Is this possible or am I just losing water?
Second question: I'd like to start working out. Is a ketogenic diet suitable for that or should I rather try something else?
Thanks.

Without knowing your stats, its hard to say for sure. But assuming you are average height and weight, i would guess that 7 or 8 of those 11 lbs are water weight. (obviously assuming you have been eating at a calorie deficit of approx 500 cals per day)
You can work out on a keto diet just fine. I am currently in ketosis and ran 6 miles last in 55 minutes. Easy Breezy.

Mostly water at this point. I can usually gain 5-10 lbs of water back in two days when I go from strong ketosis to a carb loading weekend.
Those large swings are normal depending on your carb intake. Just keep eating at a calorie deficit.Highest, 2008 --- 325 lbs

In theory, sure. My experience is that the whole ''metabolic shift'' concept is over-rated. Can't speak for you but for me, I feel a little better once I push through to keto but never quite right.
I tend to agree with you, although for rapid weight loss nothing quite beats the low carb approach. The problem is in that nagging little issues of muscle retention. A balanced diet is allot more optimal, esspecially for the natural. Now, if you're not natural, you can remain Anabolic under severe calorie/macro restrictions; which, could possible cause one to revisit severe carb cycling as an idea.
You lost mostly water weight. When you knock out carbs, as you go about your daily routing, you will loose muscle glycogen and the water that accompanies it. If you actually workout with any intensity, this happens even quicker. People get all giddy about weight loss on keto type diets but the the loss is not good. Contrary to the retarded advice often found here, "water retention" is a VERY GOOD thing.
I look at Keto as the 'Carpet Bombing' of dieting. That is: you really don't care what you hit or how much collateral damage is done (muscle etc) as long as you hit the target (fat)
