I agree squats are the best form very important tho. when i started i would always pull my back up to get back to full standing once I learnt that to straighen by pulling in my hips the whole move became much better and I could lift more.
Just finished great workout very motivated hit 13 stone this morning did squats, bp and dl. well done on the pr BamaBruce next time ur shame 37 + bar.Last edited by Gambo22; 04-12-2011 at 10:00 AM.

Hey Guys, my name is Chris and I am a skinny...Started lifting this year just by going with friends, I actually wasn't even going to get a gym membership and now it is what I look forward to doing LOL! I had some injuries that have plagued me throughout the year (broke my wrist, out two months and now I tweaked my groin), but I have gained about 20 lbs since November. I finish school early May and I plan to do a pretty serious program and bulk all of summer. I need to learn how to eat!
What programs do you guys recommend? I have been looking at SS, but to be honest lifting only 3x a week is depressing haha.

to be honest SS is the shiit for beginners. grab the book and dvd off of amazon if you can. and trust me 3x a week is plenty for a beginner. your body needs time to recover, and as a newby you will take a little longer to recover. so if you hit the weights hard and with proper form, you will see gains. i promise. i still work out 3 times a week and it's been working for me.

Im not going to lie, i was told to do the same thing i didn't like the fact that its only 3 days a week. But as a beginner, and not having experience lifting this is a great routine to start with. You don't have to do it for a long time if thats the case, maybe you could do it for 2-4 weeks. It is a great idea, because you will learn how to do the basic compound exercises, and build your strength up, and better your form. i would say atleast do it for 2-4 weeks but thats just me

My eyes almost fell out of my skull this morning when I weighed in at 72kgs.
Thats a +3kg/6lbs gain in 3 weeks from lifting regularly and trying to eat every 3 hours.
Skeptical hippo is skeptical but quietly happy. Thanks for all your advice and support so far.Last edited by ilovejunkfood; 04-13-2011 at 05:52 PM.

I can't wait either. The first thing I'm doing when I get up tomorrow is going straight to the bathroom and hopping on the scales to see how I went. I must admit I'm pretty nervous about doing it (why?) because if I hop on just to see that I've haven't gained anything, I'm going to be pretty demotivated. But I really (hope) doubt that will happen as I feel like I've put in the extra work this week that it just has to pay off.
Hope you've been having a good week so far man!

Hello everyone. Hope the progress is continuing, Im currently in the middle of the smolov routine for squats. squatting 4 times a week is kicking my ass but the results are meant to b unreal. Also for anybody who struggles with pull ups and who fails around the 10 rep mark you could try the following.
Monday regardless of what muscle your targeting do 1 pullup
tuesday 2 pullups
wed 3 pull ups
thu 4
fri 5
etc etc. found it on t nation, u do it for 60 days, i always failed around 11 but im banging out 20 now on the 20th day. I will say tho that its a tad unrealistic 2 expect to be pumping out 60 reps after 60 days but improvements should be noticeable for you.
when you start reaching 20 reps and onwards depending on ur conditioning, might be worth trying to complete them earlier in the day like 6 hours before your workout.
For a more detailed overview check t-nation it was on there '60 vday challenge' - ill keep u posted on resultsYou know its time to do something about your body when you are getting bertstared on the regular
its not how much u can lift, its rather how much you look like you can lift.

in response to redmond
its a 3 week thing then week off then the next phase involves squatting 3 times per week for another 4 weeks. After this im going to drop it down to twice a week. Just ensuring I eat like a horse, living by the phrase 'there is no such thing as overtraining but there is undereating'

If you aren't gaining weight, you aren't eating enough. It's as simple as that :P Buy a weight gainer, take 2-3 shakes in a day. eat loads of chicken and lift heavy in the gym. stay away from most of the machines and do lots of compound exercises, these work multiple muscle groups and you will have much better results, good luck!

dont get so anal about what you call 'cheat' foods. As long as you work them as much as possible into your daily macros your good to go and you wont suffer so much. its gd to treat yourself just try to plan them more. Hell ive just had a mars ice cream but its all figured into my counts.

I reckon that's one of the best parts about gaining. Seeing how you did at the end of the week.
I want to work on my (almost non-existant) calves too, but not sure what to do since I'm doing all my stuff at home.
I got up, hopped on the scales (3 times just to make sure), and came out +0.6kg since Sunday. I'm pretty happy with that. I would have love to have seen a new number on the scale with something like a 1.0kg gain, but it will come in time I guess. Who knows, I might make it by Sunday!
