HAHAHAHAAH
SO TRUE.
Sitting in TAPS class listening to all the plans (or lack of plans) that Marines had for when they got out. Some thought they were going to the FBI or CIA (with no degree, and no inside references, and plenty thought they were going to attend college (even though they were less than 2 months from getting out and still hadn't even applied to colleges OR applied for eligibility of the GI Bill).

From my experience it's quite rare, but it obviously does happen. I only know a few people who have done it, including myself.
They are working toward a 2:1 garrison to deployment ratio, but it doesn't happen too often right now and they have made something called PDMRA (absence to compensate for such a short dwell time) for those who deploy without getting that 2:1 ratio.
It can definitely happen if you deploy for long enough, in the right spot with a lot of per diem, and are part of a special unit in which you are trained enough to receive extra pays like demo, dive, etc. Otherwise intel guys aren't going to receive any other special pay to put them anywhere near a six-figure range.

Absolutely not haha but if you are such a short time away from getting out and you're far past the deadline for fall semester applications AND you haven't even applied for the GI Bill...well...good luck. Ambition and sprinting blindly has a fine line between it in that case.
But I'd say most of them were just so bitter that they really didn't want to do anything. They hadn't enough civilian work/life experience before joining to know that plenty of the things the dealt with in the Marine Corps were the same exact, if not worse in the civilian sector.

Meds for mental issues are generally frowned upon. Just the way it is, many dq you outright or dq you until you've been off them for x amount of time and then you still need a waiver. The other meds that cause problems are ones you need to take or else it severely impacts you such as diabetics and insulin, or things of that nature. Basically they want you to be perfectly capable and healthy with out the need for any meds from what I've seen.

As Bob mentioned - "medication" by itself isn't automatically disqualifying. It always depend on the underlying medical condition. If you could suffer a serious reaction (or death) without that medication, then the reason for not accepting you would be simple: There's no 100% guarantee that you'll always have access to those drugs, especially in field/combat situations. And those are the situations where your inability to perform, and the need to dedicate someone to take care of you, would have the worst impact on your unit.

Were you able to find the time to lift? How were the gyms on base?

I've been to gyms in Quantico, Pensacola, and Pendleton. I would pay to have a membership at each one if I had to. The gym I go to in Pendleton is the best I've ever been to.
A general rule is that you have two hours for PT and chow during the day i.e. 1100-1300. Of course that will depend on your unit.
The only gripe I have is no headphones while running on the street, although it doesn't seem like many follow that rule. If someone is running with a hoodie on or a beanie when the weather doesn't require it... guess...

Like someone else said, the gym in Pendleton is sick. Almost every gym I've been to on any base regardless of branch or location is usually nice.
Yea you'll most likely have time. Peak times in the gym are 1100-1300, and 1700-2000.
There's always time for fitness.
No one is ever going to yell at you during work hours for going to the pullup bar and hazing yourself with burpee pullups and flipping tires (Unless you have some SERIOUS amount work to get done for the day).

Neither is a blanket disqualifier. For Navy, LASIK will DQ from pilot, and maybe some other jobs (the rule as of three years ago, when I had my LASIK performed by the Navy, with a mix of LASIK and PRK being performed on various service members at Bethesda Naval Medical Center).
Each service may have different rules, especially as it applies to specific job fields, and those rules are not fixed in stone - So the info someone has from "a while ago" may not be accurate today. The only way to know for sure is to contact a recruiter for current regulations.

Im interested in being a Corpsmen.I realize you go through Navy and get assigned to a marine unit...Is that a hard position to get?
What could I do to prepare if I am seriously going to pursue it?
and I live in Colorado...And I have my medical marijuana license...I quit smoking now that I have seriously considered joining and I am worried that will DQ me,Will it?
