I am dying for another type of snack besides peanuts, and fruit and stuff. I need something new. Are pretzels bad?

While they are not the best, they are also not the worst choice either - as long as they aren't the kind dipped or coated in crap.
That said, I don't shy away from having a few - not a bagful or handfulls though. Don't look at it as an all-or-nothing food. Have a few pretzels AND something else.It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Here is a good whole wheat pretzels recipie that I have used before...
Ingredients:
* 1 tbsp. yeast
* 1/2 c. warm water
* 1 tsp. honey
* 1 1/3 c. Whole Wheat flour
* 1 tsp. salt
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees Celsius).
2. Put the yeast in a small bowl with the water and honey. Stir a little, then let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
3. Mix the flour and salt together in a medium-size bowl.
4. After the 5 minutes is up, check on the yeast mixture. It should be bigger than before and a little bubbly. Add this mixture to the flour and salt mixture.
5. Stir everything together. Use a spoon to start. Finish with your hands. The dough is ready when it's still a little crumbly and flaky.
6. Sprinkle flour on a cutting board. Put the dough on the cutting board and knead it like you are playing with clay. Knead it into one big ball.
7. Break off a piece of dough that's about the size of a big gumball or superball. Use your hands to roll it into a skinny snake.
8. Twist the snake into a medium-size pretzel shape, and put it on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. Do this with all the dough, making 12 pretzels.
9. Bake your pretzels for 10 minutes. Let them cool and take a bite!

At their very best, pretzels are equivalent to bread.
You only get to say that he's like that because of genetics if you work as hard as him. And if you do, shut up and work harder.

These pretzels are making me thirsty!
Maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's food for the spirit
Maybe it's beautiful music I made for you to just cherish
But I'm debated disputed hated and viewed in America
as a motherf**kin drug addict - like you didn't experiment?
Now now, that's when you start to stare at who's in the mirror
and see yourself as a kid again, and you get embarrased
And I got nothin to do but make you look stupid as parents
You f**kin do-gooders - too bad you couldn't do good at marriage!

pretzels are fine, just watch the ingredients. Make sure there arent to many added sugars or tranfats, a few pretzels as a snack are fine. Who cares if there refined a little bit, theres quite a few decent pretzels out on the market made from oats or whole grain flours and even rye. But theres nothing wrong with a pretzel made from regular flour, as long as there isnt a ton of added sugars and unhealthy fats.
oh and one more thing, for that pretzel recipie, make sure the water is warm. Not cold or hot other wise you will kill the yeast and it may effect the finished product. Also since your useing whole wheat flour , ide let the pretzel rise a bit before the ovenLast edited by Oddball8945; 07-09-2007 at 05:22 PM.
