Thank you very much for your compliment. I've been working especially diligently on the triceps machine, today using 180 pounds, 22 repetitions, 3 sets. (But they were not clean repetitions, rather stunted and sloppy, but I was exhausted after completing them.)

You have good size on the triceps. Did performing high repititions for your triceps help make your triceps bigger? How old are you?

Much obliged to you for your message. I've worked on the triceps all of my life, but lately I've emphasized using two machines, one, sitting on a bench and pressing down on bars that raise weights on a pulley--there I use, now, 180 pounds, 3 sets of 20 repetitions each. I'll probably start attempting still greater weight. The other machine, pulling down on separate handles that raise weights on a pulley. There, 162.5 pounds, also 20 repetitions, 3 sets each. The latter exercise supposedly is beneficial for all of the muscles in the back. I'm 75 years old. Best regards, George

Thank you, Luke! Your compliment is most welcome! Next Thursday I'm making new photographs, in which I hope to register better results. I just measured my waist this morning, down to 33.5 inches, last January more than 38 inches. Of course, now all of my pants are falling off of me. I don't like trying on and buying new clothes, a real pain. And, maybe I might slim down to 32 inches. So, I just keep pulling them up for the time being. Best regards, George

Good to see your still pumpin iron George. Congrats on your waist. I'm working on mine right now as well. I’ve shaved an inch off in the last month or so and have around two more inches to go.
Look forward to you your next posts. Take care.

Many thanks, Brant, for your encouraging comments and compliments. I'm intensifying my effort; today, for the first time, I took careful note of the names of the machines that I'm using, so that I can better describe some of the training that I do. For example, using the "Biangular Lat Pull", I do 3 sets using 175 pounds, 12 repetitions each (but somewhat sloppy pull-down, using too much back motion. I should use less weight and do the exercise more cleanly, but I want to keep advancing the weight to increase the challenge.) Same goes for the "Seated Dip", using 180 pounds and a seat belt to hold me on the seat (I weigh only 160 pounds, so the weight pulls me off the seat, unless I use the strap). Here, also 3 sets, 20 repetitions each. And the "Vertical Pec Deck", only 110 pounds, 20 repetitions. After 90 minutes or so, I'm exhausted, then spend 5 minutes on a cardio treadmill, then drive home. Anything that I didn't get done today, I can do tomorrow. I go simply every day. George

Your message is most inspiring, Greg, and thank you. The modern fitness centers make it possible for old men and women, such as me, to keep training. When I was young and your age, there were no fitness centers, just dusty gyms with weightlifting plates scattered about, necessitating each weight to be assembled, hunting for collars, screws and wrenches. No old person would bother with that. But, now, all one need do is sit on a padded bench, insert a pin in the hole for the desired weight, and carry out the exercise, comfortably and conveniently. And as these fitness centers become ever more luxurious, more and more old people will be joining the young to maintain and improve their physiques. Since you are still very, very young, you can adopt a strict routine of training and become a champion bodybuilder. That I would certainly do, if I were you. Best regards, George

Thank you for your message and encouragement, Fudog. And congratulations to you shedding an inch around the waist. Though training is most important, the most effective way to reduce the waist line is monitoring carefully food intake. In my case, I used to eat 2 pieces of apple pie every day; now, no more. Ice cream: none in 5 years or more. Doughnuts or other pastries: never. Now I've given up rice, no potatoes, no pasta, certainly no hamburgers nor pizzas. Never potato chips, pretzels, or other "munching" foods. Just austere basics--e.g., chicken, cole slaw, some cheese (but I probably should give cheese up, as well). One tip for a delicious, sugarfree dessert: Cut up two bananas and place them in a plastic container and put it in the freezer. The next day it's a frozen, sweet, tasty dessert. Best regards, George

Outstanding George. I enjoy the eloquince of your posts. It appears you are going into carb shut-down mode as I did, with bad results. Do a google search on paleolithic diet which was recommended to me by another member here about "good" carbs and "bad" carbs". Very enlightening.

I agree... you should add carbs to your diet one day per week... not a cheat day... but a carb-up day... it will speed up your metabolism and help you burn fat faster throughout the week. Don't just go out and eat pizza... eat healthy carbs such as oatmeal, brown rice, pasta, whole grain bread, sweet potatoes, some skim milk... you should get about 300-350g. of carbs on that one day... and lower your protein and fat intake to keep the calories from going to high overall... Carb-up days are very re-energizing and very good for you... they will actually help you lose fat faster if you do them once per week...

also... on that day I would suggest taking some ALA (alpha-lipoic acid) and/or chromium to help your body absorb the carbs into your muscles... also consume the majority of your carbs more than 4 hours before you go to bed... good luck!!!

Thank you, Luke, for the good tips. I will try to take use them. I live alone, and just eat simple things that require no preparation other than heating up in a saucepan. For example, a can of green peas heated up with some chicken white meat tossed into it. Makes an edible dish. Then some chilled cole slaw with some slices of cheese, and finally, frozen bananas for dessert. All easy to prepare, little to clean up. With the restricted diet, and constant work on the abdominal machine at the fitness center, I'm developing a six-pack abdominal contour, which encourages me to work still harder on the abdominal training machine. I've made an appointment next Thursday for my own, self-financed photo shoot with a Cuban professional photographer at his studio. I'm hoping to have better results than last time; I need to coordinate the muscle-tensing to obtain any worthwhile results. Best regards, George

Thank you, Bizarre; your compliments and comments are most welcome. Yes, I try to concentrate on everything; I need everything, so nothing goes wasted. There are so many machines that some are always unoccupied. And I perform 5 sets or more of abdominal exercises; I must also be mindful of the legs. A good set of legs is awesome to behold! Best regards, George

Best regards, George
sounds good george... If you want a very succesful fat loss program... cycle crbohydrates...

    here is a quick example...

    monday: 300g (grams)
    tuesday: 150g
    wednesday: 100g
    thursday: 175g
    friday: 175g
    saturday: 100g
    sunday: 75g

It's not easy... but it keep the body guessing and constantly burning fat...

Lots of weighted abs crunches and weight on the ab machine will help alot... it seems as if you try to eat very healthy... but at least once per week you should have a carb-up day... It may take more time to cook foodm but it's weel worth it... I think the toughest part are the low carb days... because your energy is not at 100%

don't overdo the fruits also... they are extremely nutritious but the will hamper fat loss... bananas should be eaten only after a workout or at breakfast... because the are high on the glycemic index... when you release insulin... you stop fat loss... and carbohydrates release insulin... depending on the ones you eat... some will more than others...

Thank you, itsTD, for your helpful message and compliments. I wasn't aware that I was undertaking a carbohydrate shutdown mode. I was just avoiding foods that generate fat. It's easy to avoid eating between meals, and then only nourishing food. I believe that the daily 90 minutes to 2 hours at the fitness center are doing the trick of adding the muscle that I want to acquire. I notice the change in the morning when I get ready to head out to the fitness center. I try to go first thing in the morning, at 5:30 AM, no later than 8:00 AM. Best regards, George

    um..

no it's just that i never heard anyone calling it photograph before. it just sounds odd. like a photograph is something you have in a family album. but the right term on internet is "pic", or my "scans" or my "j-pegs". just my 2 cents. luke were's your pics bro.
