    Cold oatmeal???

Maybe a dumb question, but, how do you make cold oatmeal??
Would you use the same amount of liquid as you would making it hot??
How long should you or can you soak it?? Does it become mushy??

    Thanks!!
    SMILE :)

I've eaten oats cold in two ways. First is to cook as you would hot oatmeal (I usually eat some of it hot), then put the rest in the fridge. It will thicken a bit over time, so you may want to add a bit more liquid if you want it closer to just-cooked consistency.

Second, is to mix uncooked oats in yogurt and/or cottage cheese (you could use something else, but I prefer these) and let sit in the fridge overnight, or at least a few minutes. This will not thicken as much as cooked oats, but if you leave it for a while it will soak up some of the moisture. If you like the oats chewy, eat it right away. If you want them softer, let it sit overnight.

Fitlover gave me the idea to soak the oats in milk overnight. I can't remember how much milk I used though but it wasn't hard to figure out I added some blueberries and was pleasantly surprised!

I do steel cut oats like this:

1/4 cup oats to 1/2 cup liquid (Lately I'm using almond milk)
Heat them in the microwave for 2 mins
    Refrigerate overight.
Eat with a dollop of greek yogurt and blueberries.

The oats are pleasantly chewy but not hard. Very yummy.

I cook mine (with soy milk or almond milk) and add frozen blueberries. Not cold, but not hot at all.

I always have a batch of overnight oats in the fridge - dry oats in a bowl, add chopped apples, dried fruit / bananas if you want, cover with enough almond milk to cover the whole thing, and shake some cinnamon on top. I like mine with some nut butter in there too and sometimes pumpkin. You can add a little more almond milk to it if all the liquid got soaked up when you go to eat it. It keeps for a couple of of days in the fridge. So easy + convenient, and my kids are constantly leaving me half eaten apples or bananas so I just chop off the bit part, chop it up and throw it in the oats, it gets better and better like a soup.

I used to just dump oats into a bowl and mix with pb and a smidge of water and protein to eat really quick sometimes but started getting wicked stomach aches from that. Turns out that dry oats will pull the moisture from your stomach, so if you are someone who forgets to drink enough water sometimes ( like me) you can get stomach cramps from dry oats.

But yeah, there are a bunch of recipes for 'overnight oats' if you look online.

I love my oats cold. I usually make 1/2 cup oats with 3/4 cup water (I like them thicker too)...boil in microwave, add splenda/cinnamon, and then let them sit on my desk for an hour until they are cold and chewy. Weird, but they are so much better to me this way!
