    Memorial Day

    Hey guys,
I know that you all already know this, but I wanted to make a quick point about Memorial Day vis-a-vis Veterans Day.

While I deeply appreciate your kind words and well wishing for this Holiday, this is most definitely not my Holiday. Memorial Day is, to me, the most solemn of Holidays and is only for the remembrance and honoring of those who gave all. While all who serve have sacrificed some, nothing compares to the sacrifice of those men and women who gave their lives so that others may live.

On this Memorial Day weekend, I stand in awe of those people just as much as any other American. I started my day with a moment of prayer for the families among us right now who feel the loss of a loved one.

I will always feel heartfelt gratitude for any American that wants to wish me or my comrades well on any day of the year. But on this day, Please, let us honor the fallen and their loved ones who truly gave, because tragically enough, they are all around us.

I saw this image this morning and it really brings home what this weekend is really all about!

Thank you to all, and the families of those, that have sacrificed of themselves for us!

I put my faith in the people, but the people let me down, so I turned the other way I carried on anyhow.

One side of Ft. Snelling National Cemetery runs along Minneapolis International Airport. "Runs" doesn't sound right, as you view the uniform white headstones going on, and on. . . and on . . . . . . . and on_________________________and on. The sideways row after row flashing before you in a way prevents you from trying to see the other end of all these columns/rows of service men and women who have passed. It's sobering and then also sobering and eerie when you pass by in the pitch black of night and know they're there.

Now, it doesn't need to be Memorial day for me to recall this scene and at the very least give a silent nod of respect and thanks.

Have to admit, other than Ft. Snelling, Arlington National Cemetery was the only other one I knew, so looked up to see if there were others (and most of us could name national parks far more than cemeteries).

Thanks to those who have served and gone. Stay safe to those who are serving.

Took my dad out for lunch on Saturday, he's 93 and a WWII and a Korean Vet. He wears a WWII Vet cap almost all the time and people always say nice things to him. Kinda cool to have a walking/talking war historian at my fingertips.

Just got back from my annual trip UP nort' for the Memorial Day ceremony at the local cemetary, and my Mom's B-day. Just one of several small area cemetaries, but the turnouts are always big. Makes me proud to come from a small town.....

I heard this song for the first time on the ride up.

Ain't gonna lie, I teared up pretty good.

    My brain is hanging upside-down

I used to take my kids to put flags on the graves at our local veteran's cemetery when they were Cub Scouts. Even the most unruly scout was quiet that day.
