Rugby definitely and if you want to take that fruther, rugby 7's is the most demanding sport ever invented! Try it and you will find nothing harder.
Also the guy that said soccer needs more endurance than rugby, that's bull. In rugby you are constantly running just like soccer, but at breakdowns when rucking etc, its also strength endurance. Rugby = most demanding

in a game of soccer lassting 90minutes on average the ball is only in play for 45 mins.
Prob that same for rugby, american football it is probably 5minutes lolStrength, size, power and speed arent achievable without dedication, focus and determination.

why is everyone saying rugby? Yeah at a really high level its a demanding sport just like most sports. Every amutuer rugby team i've ever seen has at least a few big fat guys. All the rugby teams in my city are unfit, fat guys that were too fat and had rubbish CV endurance to take take part in sports like football, basketball, gymnastics, swimming ect..
I hardly ever play rugby, but I could get into a competitive game for my age group and be faster than everyone, better CV, hit harder than alot of people ect..

No offense bud, but at 144lbs, you come and play in a decent game of rugby and you will go home broken. You just wont have strength/weight to compete, well apart from say one position. Don't know what age you are, but play U18 rugby at a highly competitive level, like national cup and you will see what rugby is! And you don't get fat guys playing in high level stuff.
This is true for a running sense. But with the absence of rucking and mauls it is far less strength demanding. I'd say league is harder cardiovascularly but union is the more overall demanding of the two.
Also league is the most boring sport i have ever played. It really doesn't compare to union.

you no why they were sturggling???? Cause its a physically demanding sport.
Yeh league is very high fitness but union ism ore rounded.
Imagine a prop. scrummaging useing all his length strength to push, then having to go to rucks straight away. then when the ball goes out they are lifting in the lineout. Its very draining.Strength, size, power and speed arent achievable without dedication, focus and determination.

^^^^^^^Exactly even the 20stone professional props are extremely fit. It's just that the other guys in the team are carrying less bodyweight.
Also playing in P.E. isn't really playing high level rugby. It is seriously demanding. I will not say there is nothing that comes close as they're are probably unbeliveably draining sports i have never played.

There are plenty of tough sports about, but surely things like lacrosse, ice hockey, rugby, aussie rules football, american football and so on top the list, it's a lot of sprinting around and you're taking hits as well.

Stick to the basics, heavy compund lifts, some isolation work and a hell of a lot of food and rest!

ok so im a wrestler, easy enough to tell, and anyone who says it isnt a team sport thats bull. you can be good individually thats great but you train as a team and not usually all on your own like other sports where you compete one on one. Id say wrestling by far is the most demanding of mental and physical strength. Fighting and all other martial arts are up there too. For a sport that you compete on a team together, id say rugby for sure, demands are almost always big muscular guys who have endurance like crazy. constant play, it makes football just seem so boring and easy
