There is a guy I work with out here in Iraq that is over 50 years old. He claims that he doesn't date woman, correction girls over 20 years old. He brags about dating a 17year old. I think he dates "Russians" only. I want knock his teeth out his fat head..
Would you say he is a ****phile?

I don't see the difference between a 50 yr. old dating a 17 yr. old and a 18 yr. old dating a 17 yr. old. Either way, assuming the younger is a female, she can get just as knocked up. I don't understand peoples disgust when a man is much older, but they have no problem if the two are closer in age. Also, the double standard bothers me when people consider a teenage guy is lucky if hes raped by an older woman, but a girl is a victim if she's raped by an older man.

Personally it's disgusting.
Is he a ****phile?: not enough info so no. At 17, in most cases, the person is beyond the age of consent.
However, when I was 17, if I brought a 50yr old man home I would probably have been locked up somewhere by my father (and would still be there to this day.) My "date" would have been 7 years older than my dad and he didn't like the guys my own age that I dated."Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal, nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong attitude" - Thomas Jefferson

This..
The guy might be a pervert but a ****phile is a different thing, sure legally he is considered one in the US but..
in many countries girls are considered marriage ready at 17 ..
maybe russian girls are like that .. still kind of creepy but I see a lot of 17yo who I wouldn't want my daughter to be near .. probably most of them LOLwho says love has to be soft and gentle ?

Actually in the US age of consent in most states is 16. In Russia it is also 16.

As a father of 3 daughters I find it disturbing. A man's perspective towards girls/women usually changes when they have a daughter. You start to realize every woman is somebody's little girl.
But.....
I wouldn't say he's a ****phile though.
As a man thinking with "the other" head, if I'm 50 and lonely and a 18 year old wants to play.......I can't say I'd turn her down. I don't plan on being in that position though.
I will say I don't think that type of relationship would last though, it would be purely drivin by sex and/or possibly money.(sugar dady anyone?)
Hey, as long as its legal and consenting, who am I to say it aint right? Some people find my wife and I disturbing just for being us

At what point does the age gap become acceptable? Anna Nicole Smith's 90+ year old husband was 60 years older than her, and many guys would consider him a lucky old fart. But a 30 year difference is considered reprehensible in this case. What age does a woman need to be for the age difference to be acceptable?

IMO 1. when they can buy a beer.. 2. Not living with Mom and Daddy still
Most I would push is 11-12 years difference.. Even then, what the hell are we going to have in common? 9x out a 10 nothing.. but who knows.
In the same breath.. If she is on her own, supporting herself and living her own life... She is a big girl and can make her own decisions and mistakes. If the man loves her, respects her and takes care of her... who knows..."No matter who you are, no matter what you do, you absolutely, positively do have the power to change." ~Bill Phillips~

Its interesting how things have changed. Older men marrying, let alone dating, women at 17 or 16 and younger used to be acceptable. When and why did we start seeing this as unacceptable? Not advocating it, just musing about how things have changed. Personally, I doubt that I'd date someone much younger than 30, no way I'd be with someone younger than 25. I just couldn't take them seriously. The idea of raising my wife is kind of a turn off.

IC my problem is not with the age gap, it is with the comments of she is to old at 20 and I only date 17 year olds. To me that shows more of a predatory type of guy then a decent guy looking for anything worth while. That is my largest problem with it, the fact my oldest is 14 and I know these guys are out there and I see how they look at her now just sets me off into a rage. I am actually not allowed at target near my house due to some 50 something guy staring at my daughter, but another story for another time, will just say its a BH type response.
Excuses are like A-holes everyone's got 1...............

In the 60's and 70's for sure... equality, women realized they wanted careers and jobs and they where not slaves to the kitchen , college and getting educated was important so marriage needed to be put on hold, with that laws changed to protect the rights of minors..
Frankly a 17 yo woman 30-40 years ago was a lot more mature than a boy at the same age, today is a little different but there is still a huge gapwho says love has to be soft and gentle ?
